An eat-in kitchen always has something very comfortable and cozy about it. Guests are practically in the middle of the action, they have "contact" with the kitchen and are involved in everything. Unfortunately, large kitchens are no longer in fashion these days. A dining room can also be a very comfortable room where not only guests like to meet for eating and chatting, but also the family. To ensure the dining room becomes an appealing space, a few things should be considered when furnishing and designing it.

More than four chairs and a table

A table and four chairs – that is how most people still imagine a "classic dining room", but that is of course not true. Especially when designing the dining room, there are many beautiful ideas that can be implemented with simple means. Only if the table is the right size and the chairs are comfortable will guests like to stay longer and feel at home. If the table is to accommodate four people, the tabletop must have a diameter of at least 100 cm; if six people are to be accommodated, it can be 20 cm more. A round table is rather impractical for larger families because it would have to be enlarged with an insert leaf if necessary. Rectangular tables are wonderful if the table is to stand in the corner, and a square table is particularly sociable because everyone sitting around the table is the same distance from each other.Designer chairs set accentsThe chairs grouped around a dining table must be comfortable, but they should also set visual accents. "Designer chairs" always look good if they harmonize with the dining table. If you like it soft, you should choose designer chairs with appropriate upholstery, and if you want it to be practical, then shapely wooden chairs are a great idea. Chairs only become comfortable with a backrest that is not too stiff; however, a chair with armrests quickly looks a bit old-fashioned and is a matter of taste.

The right light

A dining room lamp is perfect if it illuminates the entire table without appearing glaring. In addition to pendant lights that can be adjusted in height, dimmable light is ideal, as it always adapts to the respective occasion. For tables from a length of two meters, it is difficult to find the right lighting; here, modern track systems, cable or rod systems must be used. To ensure that the light is always pleasant for the eyes, the rule should apply: The lamp or light must be at least 60 cm away from the tabletop. Only then can the person opposite at the table be looked at without it dazzling the eyes.Posted on: 05.01.2017An eat-in kitchen always has something very comfortable and cozy about it.
