Combining wellness and sightseeing is a successful holiday for many. Especially when adults travel with children. Sightseeing for the parents during the day and in the afternoon, off to a large indoor pool, ideally equipped with a sauna and slides. Of course, all this shouldn't cost too much either. I wanted to try out such a holiday with good friends (without children!). We chose Prague as our city, and the hotel was the Aquapalace in Prague with half-board and direct bathrobe access to the thermal spa. We drove there by car. You can find out how we got on here:
Wellness holiday at the thermal hotel Aquapalace in Prague
The 4-star Aquapalace Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic, offers a diverse range of activities all year round for families, couples, singles, and best friends. We were able to really relax here and spent a wonderful weekend. We arrived by car and parked it in the parking garage. English is preferred at the reception, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. After all the formalities, the holiday could really begin:
Wellness & Beauty
After an exhausting day in the city with lots of walking and possibly carrying heavy shopping bags, winding down in the thermal spa or spa is a treat. In our room, there were white bathrobes and slippers that we could use.
You can go directly from the hotel to the thermal spa in your bathrobe. On more than 9000 m², there is truly something for everyone.
Our package included the wristband for the thermal spa, so we didn't have to queue. Right after the cash desk, there are, as usual, plenty of lockers and changing rooms that you can conveniently use on the last day. Through the showers and the toilet, you reach the large Aquapalace thermal spa.
The Aquapalace thermal spa is divided into 3 palaces: Palace of Treasures, Palace of Adventures, and Palace of Relaxation. In the large main part is the children's world with a children's pool and pirate ship, a wave pool where it also rains every now and then, and a pool with beautiful aquariums and warmer water. The Palace of Adventures is filled with a wide variety of slides. From very easy and slow to very dark and fast, everything can be found. Some of the slides can be used with or without tubes and also vary in age recommendations. The Palace of Relaxation is the large sauna world with classic Finnish saunas, a Roman bath, and further saunas and whirlpools in the outdoor area. The entire sauna area is a nude area. There is a separate children's sauna for kids. Those who want to refuel will find plenty to choose from in the Aquapark restaurant.
Beauty should not be neglected at the Aquapalace either. Above the cash desks, there is a spa for beauty. Here you will find massages in many variations and beauty treatments. At the spa reception, treatments are scheduled by appointment. When it's time, you can take a locker in the changing room that you were assigned at the reception. There you will find slippers and a bathrobe. Shortly before the changing room, the therapist is usually already waiting, and you are led into an extra room where the treatment begins in a beautiful atmosphere.
We were in the thermal spa every evening or for half the day on Sunday. On Sunday, we also treated ourselves to 1-2 beauty treatments and were very satisfied. Very friendly staff who made a great effort. I can highly recommend the back and neck massage.
Room
The Aquapalace Hotel in Prague has 231 hotel rooms on several floors, which are accessible by lift. For the lift, you must use the room card that you also use to enter the room.
We had a double room, which was equipped with a nice comfortable double bed, a large desk, a wardrobe, a small couch chair, and another table with a chair. In the bathroom, there was a bathtub with a shower, toilet, and sink. In the room, you will find bathrobes and slippers as well as a wellness bag with towels for the Aquapark.
It is also great that you could use Wi-Fi for free without a code. There is also a TV with a remote control in the room, with all kinds of different channels (including German ones!).
Extra tip:For children, it is best to bring your own bathrobes and slippers.
Restaurant
We decided on half-board. So we had a breakfast buffet in the dining room in the morning. First, you have to report to the dining room and get assigned a table. The coffee comes to the table, the rest can be taken from the buffet.
Here there were various juices, tea, and an extra coffee and cocoa machine. For food, there was everything the heart desires: various types of muesli, with different yoghurts, milk and fruit, various pastries and bread, jams, honey, ham, cheese, and also warm things like scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.
In the evening, you have to report to the front of the dining room again and get assigned a table again. In the evening, 2 drinks per room are free and are served. You get the food from the buffet again. Here there were Czech specialties mixed with common international dishes. A large salad buffet as well as appetizers are also offered here. Of course, desserts should not be missing: cakes, creams, puddings, fruit were always available to choose from.
You can end the evening in the adjacent bar. Here there are great cocktails to taste.
Info:What I think is really, really great: In the dining room, there are play corners with Lego or games. In the morning, there are 2 entertainers who keep the children busy. At the bar/reception, there are animals to ride and roll on, which the children can drive around with. There are also game consoles for the children. I think that is really, really great!
Sightseeing
The capital Prague of the Czech Republic has some sights to offer that we also wanted to see. The so-called Aquabus runs for free from the hotel to the nearest underground station. Tickets can be bought right at the reception – check and note the arrival and departure times here too, because the bus only runs hourly. Departure and arrival of the bus is right at the main entrance of the thermal spa (not right at the hotel entrance!). With the underground, you can easily get to the center of Prague and are right in the middle of the action.
Since we only had one day, we visited the classics, such as the Charles Bridge, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Prague Astronomical Clock (punctually on the hour), and the Old Town of Prague. We also instinctively found a shopping street and bought some souvenirs. The highlight on this for my friend and me was the Hamleys store – a huge store just with toys and facilities for children to play. Wonderful!
Extra tip:Note or photograph the departure and arrival time of the Aquabus. This bus only runs hourly!
Conclusion
This weekend trip was wonderful. For me, everything was right. The hotel was great, especially the spa and wellness area. It was simply brilliant to still be able to scurry into the thermal spa in a bathrobe in the evening after sightseeing and spend the evening there. It was always busy, but of course far less than during the day. The rooms were very nice, large, and well-furnished for me.
Only at dinner was I a little disappointed. Here there were more side dishes than main courses for the main meals, and hardly any vegetables among the side dishes; we might have just been unlucky on the 2 evenings. Otherwise, everything was really fine, and I would like to go there again with my family. Besides the great thermal spa, I definitely want to show my children the Hamleys store, as I met Hulkbuster, Hulk, and a Stormtrooper there ;-).
