No deodorant? Vinegar can help

Vinegar

Hygiene includes washing under the armpits, as a lot of sweat can form here, which smells unpleasant. Afterwards, you use a deodorant or a roll-on for a good, long-lasting scent. But what do you do if you don't have any deodorant on hand? Or if you can't tolerate conventional deodorants? Here we have tips for deodorant substitutes:

The deodorant substitute

There are actually people who consciously choose to go without deodorant. This is sometimes because the skin under the armpits becomes more sensitive over time. Now some people might turn up their noses and think that the smell of sweat is inevitable. But that doesn't have to be the case – Goodbye chemistry, welcome naturalness!

Vinegar

The method with vinegar – or apple cider vinegar – probably seems crazy here. After all, who wants to smell like vinegar? This might not sound seductive, but believe it or not: the smell of vinegar evaporates quickly, but the function of the vinegar remains. Simply soak a cotton pad with vinegar and dab it on your armpits. Sweat production is reduced and you can start the day feeling relaxed.

Coconut oil

An alternative: coconut oil. Simply warm the slightly creamier version a little in your hands and then rub it into your armpits. The oil absorbs quickly and makes the skin soft and supple. Don't worry about stains on your clothes: the oil is completely absorbed by the body and leaves no residue.

Baking soda

However, if you don't want to do without the spray effect, you can make a simple deodorant yourself. A simple but effective deodorant can be conjured up from water and baking soda that does not irritate the skin and yet does not fail to have its effect. The water is first boiled, then the baking soda (which can be purchased commercially in small packets from e.g. Dr. Oetker) is added to the hot, but no longer boiling, water and stirred well. This mixture is allowed to cool and is finally filled into a spray bottle.

Tip for the deodorant spray: if you don't want to do without scents in your own spray deodorant, you can add a few drops of essential oils.

Disadvantage of homemade deodorant sprays: they do not last as long as the industrial version. To extend the shelf life, simply add some pure alcohol. 5 ml per 1 liter is completely sufficient.

Baby powder

Those who tend to sweat heavily under their arms often search in vain for a truly reliable deodorant. With a little baby powder, you can significantly limit sweat production. For application, first wash as usual, dry off, and then distribute some powder under the armpits with a cotton pad. Then use a deodorant as usual.

Caution: This method is not suitable for dark clothing with short sleeves, as white residue may be visible on the fabric.
