Easter simply wouldn't be the same without beautifully painted, colorful eggs. You can buy them, or you can make them yourself. If you want to paint and decorate your Easter eggs in a particularly beautiful way, here are a few tips to try out:
Achieving beautiful effects on eggs with colors
Speckled eggs
Shopping list:
- Eggs
- Egg dyes: a darker color than the egg color (e.g., watercolor, acrylic paint, etc.)
- old toothbrush or brush
Instructions:
For this version, the eggs are first dyed in the desired colors. After drying, dip the toothbrush into the darker color and run your thumb over the bristles to splatter the egg with dots. If you find this too messy, you can use a tea strainer. Simply brush the toothbrush through the strainer to speckle the egg. Then let it dry well again. If you like, you can repeat this process with other colors to create eggs with colorful speckles.
Eggs with motifs
Shopping list:
- Eggs
- Egg dye
- Paper
- nylon stocking
Instructions:
To decorate your eggs in an extravagant way, cut out beautiful motifs from paper, such as flowers, leaves, dots, stars, hearts, etc. Glue these paper motifs onto the raw egg using a little egg white. To fix them firmly in place, pull a nylon stocking over the egg and tie it tightly at both ends with a thread. Then place the whole thing into the dye bath and hard-boil as usual. This creates beautiful patterns. If you like, you can use real leaves instead of paper motifs, fixing them in place only with the stocking.
Painting eggs
Shopping list:
- Eggs
- Egg dyes
- Cotton swab or thin brush
- Lemons (or lemon concentrate)
Instructions:
Another decorative option is to add a natural pattern to the eggs. To do this, use a cotton swab or a thin brush dipped in lemon juice (lemon juice concentrate also works) to paint beautiful patterns on the egg. Let it dry and then dye it. The egg will not take on color in exactly these spots, and the pattern will be clearly visible.
Additional decorations
Eggs can also be beautifully decorated with feathers: glue as many feathers as you like in the desired colors to the thicker end of the egg. Of course, you can also use superglue to attach beads, glitter, small butterflies, etc., which is also a nice change.
If you want to hang the eggs, you will need a darning needle and beautiful ribbons: use the darning needle to thread the ribbon through the holes so that a loop forms on one side. Either knot the two ends or tie them into a beautiful bow. You can also attach beads or small butterflies to the ribbon with superglue. If the hole at the top is too large, you can hide it with feathers, artificial flowers, small butterflies, etc.
Extra tip: To ensure the eggs take the color particularly well, always rub the eggs – whether blown out or hard-boiled – with vinegar water.
