Household tips - pickle jar

Every time I get annoyed when I cannot open pickle jars. Or jam jars, too. Usually, they are sealed so tightly that I have to fiddle around forever. But here I have a few tips so you don't have to do without them:

Open pickle jars without muscle power

Sandpaper

Take a Sandpaper and place it around the lid, and then unscrew.

Taps on the bottom of the jar or lid

A few taps on the bottom of the jar also work wonders: one or two gentle taps are enough and the pickle jar or jam jar will open. Tap firmly against the lid a few times with the back of a knife – after this, the vacuum should also escape and the lid can be removed with ease.

Hot water

Simply pour hot water over the pickle jar for a few minutes.

Hole in the lid

But with this trick, it's no longer a problem: simply poke a small hole in the lid with a sharp knife or a can opener. After it has hissed, it can be opened normally. You can still store the rest in the fridge as usual.

Loosen the lid

Lay the pickle jar down and insert a knife or spoon sideways between the glass and the lid. As soon as a soft hissing sound is heard, the lid can be opened quite easily – with this method, I have been able to open everything so far.

Extra tip: However, anyone who wants to reuse the lids, e.g., for preserving jams, should not open them with a knife, as this can unfortunately damage the lids.
