Velvet is an elegant fabric that is also comfortable to wear. This fabric is woven in a special way; on the outside, there are loops that are then cut. In professional circles, this is called pile, which makes the velvet so beautifully soft but also delicate. In addition to clothing, velvet is also popular for upholstery covers or curtains. To keep velvet looking beautiful, a few things should be kept in mind.
Washing velvet
Before caring for a velvet garment, it is essential to check the label. If it is real velvet, the piece should not be washed at home but taken to the dry cleaners. If you still want to wash velvet fabric yourself, do so only by hand and not in the washing machine. A mild detergent should be used, and do not rub the fabric while washing.
Drying velvet
Never wring out wet velvet garments or put them in the tumble dryer. It is best to wrap the wet garment in a terry cloth towel and gently press the water out. Then, let it dry on a clothes hanger (not near a heater). Before the velvet is completely dry, brush it against the grain with a soft brush.
Removing wrinkles from velvet
You should avoid ironing velvet clothing. If there are any creases, it is best to hang the garment in the bathroom after showering. The warm, humid air will make wrinkles disappear. If it absolutely must be ironed, always iron from the inside out and do not press down hard.
