Nothing beats freshly harvested vegetables; they taste better and you know they are organic. However, as a hobby gardener, you also know that caterpillars or insects like to hide in the vegetables. Here we have a simple tip so that the vegetables can still be eaten without worry:

Cleaning vegetables properly

No insects in vegetables thanks to salt and vinegar

To ensure that insects do not stick to the vegetables when washing, it is best to wash the vegetables in lukewarm water to which a little salt and vinegar has been added. The uninvited guests do not like this at all.

Cleaning vegetables of pesticide residues

Mix 1 l of water with 1 tbsp of baking soda in a large bowl and let the vegetables (also works with fruit!) soak for approx. 15 minutes. Then rinse the vegetables with water and they are ready to be used.

Make your own fruit and vegetable cleaner

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • half a cup of lemon
  • a clean spray bottle

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients and pour into the spray bottle. Spray the fruit or vegetables with the mixture and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then rinse everything well and it is ready to enjoy.

If you want to be absolutely sure that the fruit and vegetables do not contain any pollutants or pesticides, you should grow your own Vegetable bed in the garden or a few plants on the balcony.
