Pregnancy tips

In the video for the 13th week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 13 are presented.

The second trimester has begun and the Pregnancy is now clearly visible in most pregnant women. At the beginning of the 13th week of pregnancy, your baby is ten weeks old and already looks like a little human, even though it only measures a few centimeters. The face, eyes, nose, and mouth are already quite clearly recognizable, but the skin is still very thin and transparent. The organs are already working at full speed; the liver and gallbladder are beginning to function, and the thyroid gland is also complete, allowing insulin to be produced. It is not yet possible to determine the sex via ultrasound, but the small differences are already present.

Your baby in the 13th week

The child kicks strongly and a lot in the amniotic fluid, but these movements are more reflex-like and not yet consciously controlled. This will change in the coming weeks, however. Soon you will be able to experience the baby's first movements.

The first critical weeks of Pregnancy have been successfully completed, and the nausea and fatigue are also gradually subsiding. Of course, mood swings are still the order of the day, but many women also feel a real desire for sex from time to time. Do not be afraid to be intimate with your partner: your child is perfectly fine in the warm, cozy amniotic fluid and is not affected by sexual intercourse. Everything that does not cause pain is allowed and can be enjoyed.

Nutrition during pregnancy

Always remember: your baby is eating with you. The German term "Mutterkuchen" (placenta) is derived from the Latin word "placenta". In the placenta, nutrients from food are passed on to the baby via the mother's blood. The better you eat during pregnancy, the better the supply for your child.
Nevertheless, many pregnant women sometimes feel an increased appetite for downright unthinkable food combinations: vanilla ice cream with herring, chocolate and pickled cucumbers, or mixed pickles with strawberries are not uncommon here. Since saliva usually tastes sweeter during pregnancy than usual, the expectant mother needs a balance that is neutralized by sour treats. Since pickles are quite healthy and low in calories, this is a healthy snack for in between.

Do you feel like something sweet every now and then? No problem: let a piece of chocolate melt slowly in your mouth instead of indulging in the whole bar. Or, instead of the whole bag of gummy bears, take a small handful aside and chew them consciously and with enjoyment. This way, unwanted fat deposits can be cleverly avoided.

Of course, the need for calories increases with the child – but this is a barely noticeable increase. It is hard to believe, because although a completely new creature is growing in your belly, more food is hardly necessary. In the first three months of pregnancy, the menu does not need to be expanded at all. From the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy, the daily calorie value increases by a maximum of 200 to 300 calories, so you should consume around 2,200 kcal per day. This corresponds to about one extra portion of vegetables and potatoes, a hearty piece of bread with cheese, or two bars of chocolate. The growing child in the womb does not need significantly more – simply rely on your body: it knows what it needs more of now.
