Nothing is cooler than a leather jacket. To keep it looking great, it needs special care; here are our tips:
Care of leather jackets
The jacket is treated depending on the type of leather. Water soaks into rough leather, but not into smooth leather.
Smooth leather jackets
Here you can remove dirt and stains relatively easily. Either clean the jacket with a soft brush or wet-clean it with a leather cleaner. It is advisable to test the leather cleaner on a hidden spot first in case stains do form. When applying the cleaner, always work from seam to seam so that no differences become visible.
Rough leather
If you have a fresh stain on your jacket, absorb the moisture with a paper towel – important: do not rub. Rough leather should never be wet-cleaned, as stain edges can develop. If the stain cannot be removed, you should consult a specialist.
For a leather jacket, it is best to have a specialist clean it, especially if you spent quite a lot of money on it.
Drying a wet leather jacket
If the leather jacket has gotten wet, immediately on a hanger dry (not next to the heater). Then brush suede leather well. If the leather has become hard due to moisture, you can knead it soft again.
Over time, leather unfortunately becomes dry and stiff. Rough leather jackets should be greased from time to time with leather grease or oil.
Storage
Do not store leather in plastic or in damp basements, as it can begin to mold. If you pack it away, pack it flat and take it out again soon. Also be careful with oiled jackets, as they can rub off and should therefore not be stored together with light-colored clothing.
