Of course, you can simply walk into the drugstore and buy a bottle of polish. Nevertheless, many furniture polishes do indeed smell a bit strong and many also cost a decent amount of money. Why not just make furniture polish yourself?
Making your own furniture polish
Vinegar
Mix 3 tablespoons of vinegar mixed with 3 tablespoons of oil. For heavily soiled surfaces, add another teaspoon of Salt to this mixture.
Herbal liqueur
You can conjure up your own furniture polish for almost every type of wood. For dark wood, for example, dark herbal liqueur is very suitable. Simply apply the liqueur to a soft, lint-free cloth and rub the cabinet in circular motions. This not only smells better than the chemical products from the supermarket, but also reliably removes scratches.
Black tea
However, if you don't have any herbal liqueur in the house and don't want to buy a bottle just for the furniture, you can also use black tea. Simply let four to five bags steep very well in a liter of boiling water and apply to the furniture after it has cooled down.
Sunscreen lotion
Perhaps one or the other still has a bottle of Sunscreen lotion left over from last year? This agent is also excellent for cleaning solid wood. Simply rub the furniture with the milk and polish thoroughly. Positive effect: the furniture shines and smells pleasantly fresh.
Beeswax with turpentine
Solid wood furniture requires elaborate care. Or maybe not? Simply mix a little Beeswax with a dash of turpentine. For this, process about 50g of beeswax with a kitchen grater and then mix with 150ml of turpentine. Now put this mixture into a heat-resistant container and let it melt in a water bath. Once the beeswax has melted and a uniform consistency has formed, the container can be removed from the stove. After cooling, this furniture polish is ready for use. More shine and care is hardly possible.
Olive oil and lemon oil
Need it to be quick? Then how about this polish: simply mix two parts olive oil with one part lemon oil or alternatively vinegar and fill into a spray bottle. After spraying the furniture evenly, simply let the polish take effect for two minutes and then wipe off with a soft, lint-free cloth. Done.
Beer
Beer is only for drinking. Or isn't it? Lukewarm beer (cervisia) already provided delight in ancient times and even today one can use lukewarm beer excellently for furniture. For this, rub oak furniture in particular with light, lukewarm beer and then polish with a soft cloth.
Red wine and oil
The furniture is dull and matte and needs a proper shine treatment? No problem. Simply mix a glass of red wine with a glass of oil and use this for dark furniture. This furniture polish is a treat for dark furniture. Caution: this polish is NOT suitable for light-colored furniture.
Tip: the furniture should behot pans rubbed completely with the individual polishes immediately. It is important to check the furniture for compatibility after mixing your own furniture polish.
To do this, simply apply the polish to an inconspicuous area and check whether stains or similar occur. This way you can easily avoid unpleasant surprises.
