In the video for the 14th week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 14 are presented.
You have now reached the 14th week of pregnancy and the fetus is now 11 weeks old. The pregnancy continues to run smoothly for most women now; nausea and fatigue are subsiding, so they can focus completely on the child and should enjoy this time. Meanwhile, nature is working rapidly in your abdomen: the brain is steadily increasing in size, with the cerebrum in particular making progress. The baby is currently growing very quickly and although it still has plenty of room in the amniotic sac, it is moving around lively.
As a rule, expectant mothers cannot yet feel these movements – however, this will change in the coming weeks. After all, the child can already feel the mother's loving caresses: if you gently stroke or press against the uterus, the fetus usually moves away from your hand. The fetus is now 7-9 cm long and weighs 35-40g – these figures will also change significantly in the near future.
During the 14th week of pregnancy, the child's neck gradually develops, allowing it to practice lifting its head. At the same time, cautious breathing exercises are also being performed. In this week of pregnancy, it is also already apparent whether the child is a boy or a girl, as the external genitalia now reveal the subtle difference.
Mood swings begin
With the growing belly, the pregnant woman also experiences the changing mood again and again. Many women are proud of their little belly, while others cannot cope very well with the change. The partner will also not be able to escape these mood swings. Especially in these times, it is important to provide plenty of encouragement and, above all, understanding for the expectant mother, even if it is sometimes difficult for the partner.
Attending an antenatal class
Make sure you try to register for an antenatal class in good time. Unfortunately, the courses are often fully booked well in advance. Therefore, you should seize the opportunity early on. There are women-only courses, mixed courses, partner courses, and courses for fathers only to choose from for an antenatal class. Talk to your partner about what you personally feel like doing. Usually, it is not a bad idea to experience it together with your partner. This way, questions, fears, and worries can be clarified on the spot with like-minded couples. For many couples, it is a meaningful and liberating experience.
Caution with nutrition
During the Pregnancy, make sure that you do not consume raw meat or fish, raw eggs, or similar, and that you do not necessarily have to clean the litter box. These examples are often the reason for a specific infectious disease: toxoplasmosis. Almost every second adult has already formed antibodies against this pathogen because they have had this disease at some point in their life. Usually, these symptoms are similar to a mild flu with fatigue, mild fever, swollen lymph nodes in the neck area, and body aches. Once this disease has been overcome, antibodies are formed for life – in this case, also for the protection of the child.
However, if the disease occurs during pregnancy, this quite harmless illness can be transmitted from the mother to the child, which can have serious consequences, among other things. These consequences can sometimes trigger a miscarriage or result in damage ranging from moderate to severe and can also affect the brain of the unborn baby.
If you are not sure whether you have already had a toxoplasmosis infection, an antibody test can help. Your doctor will inform you about the best measures regarding the test.
