Gnats, also known as mosquitoes, are a real nuisance. To avoid breeding them in your own rainwater barrel, you should protect your rain barrel from these annoying insects. Gnats lay their eggs in standing water.
Cover the rainwater barrel with nylon tights
What you’ll need:
- large, thin nylon tights
- rubber band that fits around the rain barrel
Instructions:
First, pull the tights over the barrel; this allows water to get in, but not the gnats. Secure it with a large, wide rubber band. Done, now you still have rainwater, but no (new!) gnats.
