Tips for saving water certainly have great significance, which should not be underestimated, given an average Austrian water consumption of 150 liters per person. Since it is relatively cheap and accessible to everyone in our regions, men and women rarely decide to effectively limit their Water consumption and thus also protect the environment. Since sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic in our industrial society, we are now listing some tips for you that you should take to heart.

10 effective tips for saving water

  • When a faucet drips, one usually finds the noise unpleasant at most and hardly considers further consequences. Yet, this can result in the loss of 36 liters of water in just one day. If the toilet flush is running, it involves a considerable amount of up to 700 liters.
  • For the toilet, there are also stop buttons that can be easily retrofitted. Modern cisterns save up to 8 liters per flush.
  • Avoid taking a daily full bath if you want to make a contribution to saving water. Filling the tub can take up to 200 liters, whereas a short shower uses 70 or 80 liters.
  • Do not hold on to old appliances for too long. A good tip is, for example, to get a new washing machine for the household, which uses only a third of its 40-year-old predecessor with about 50 liters per wash cycle.
  • Also, only turn on your washing machine when it is full and do not run half-loads. Because every wash cycle consumes the same amount of water.
  • Another effective tip for saving water: Food scraps and waste must not be flushed down the toilet. This places an immense burden on the sewage system.
  • Water your plants either early in the morning or in the evening, because then the Water does not evaporate as quickly. If you also use rainwater, you support the environment.
  • Use water-saving shower heads – they provide savings of up to 70 euros.
  • saving water when washing dishes: If you wash by hand, follow this tip: Only turn on the tap when you actually need water and do not let many liters run down the drain unnecessarily.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of meat. This tip can have a big impact: 15,000 liters of water are used to produce 1 kg of beef, while 1 kg of grain only requires 1,000 liters.
