Father's Day is a lovely opportunity to show appreciation to hardworking dads. They work all week and then help as much as they can around the house and with the children. That is often not easy and requires a lot of energy. That is exactly why dads should also be honored on this day. Even if many say it is not important to them, or that they do not want gifts. If you think of them, they will definitely be happy.
The same applies here: it is not about the best or most expensive gift; it is about thinking of them and appreciating what they do. Here I have collected some lovely gifts for Father's Day; take a look and see if there is something for you:
Homemade gifts for Father's Day
Homemade beer garden for Father's Day
What you’ll need:
- a tray, a platter or a basket
- herbs or plants
- wooden sticks (e.g. chopsticks from Chinese takeout)
- colorful construction paper
- string
- scissors, possibly pinking shears
- Glue
- Beer
- pens, possibly Zen Pens
Instructions:
For the homemade beer garden, you first need a base. We chose a wooden slice from the hardware store. You can also use a tray or a container, such as a basket or a large flowerpot. At the hardware store we also bought the herbs and plants right away. Our children chose salad herbs (Dad loves salad), a snack pepper plant and a tomato plant. We chose matching pots so that the whole thing looks pretty. If you arrange the whole thing in a large pot or in a basket, you will need potting soil so that everything can be planted nicely.
We placed everything on the wooden slice to determine the size. Using these measurements, the children made a small garland. For this we used 3 sticks (chopsticks), some string and colorful construction paper. We cut equally sized triangles out of the colorful construction paper and glued them to the string. The string was glued to the 3 sticks, then everything was left to dry well. They also cut out a large rectangle nicely from the construction paper (they used pinking shears). The word ‘Beer Garden’ was written on it with Zen Pens.
Important: Let it dry well. Glue this sign to a wooden stick as well and let it dry well again. Stick the garland and the sign into the plants. Add beer bottles to the tray or basket, and the beer garden for dear Dad is finished.
From my husband's experience: He was absolutely delighted with it; we put the garland in one of our flowerpots in the house because it is sooo pretty.
Picture frame with stones for Father's Day
What you’ll need:
- picture frame with a flat frame
- colorful paper
- pens
- small stones
- Glue
- Scissors
Instructions:
This gift is easy, quick to make and inexpensive. For this, choose a picture frame that has a flat frame (so no rounded or delicate frames, because the stones cannot be attached to those!). Cut the paper to the size of the picture in the frame. Now write the text on the paper. My daughter chose the text "My Dad rocks," which is very fitting. Place the finished picture in the frame and close it.
Coat the outer frame with glue and stick the stones onto the frame. It looks nice if small stones are also glued into the gaps on top of the first row of stones. Let everything dry well, and the lovely Father's Day gift is finished.
From my husband's experience: He was very happy and the picture is in our living room.
Decorate a picture frame with leaves and blossoms
What you’ll need:
- Picture frame
- dried leaves, blossoms, fruit slices or berries
- sheet of paper, colored or to paint
- double-sided tape (Or roll up Tixo), or glue
- Scissors
Crafting instructions:
For these pictures, look for beautiful motifs in nature: leaves, clover leaves, blossoms or even an orange slice or berries. I think that is already a wonderful task for the children. It is lovely to see how attentively they walk through nature and collect things.
Let the found treasures dry well. The best way to do this is to place the blossoms and leaves in large, heavy books a few days beforehand; this makes them nice and flat.
Paint a sheet of paper in the desired color or use ready-made colored construction paper and cut it to the correct picture-frame size. Then glue the motif, e.g.: a large dried leaf or blossoms, onto the paper with adhesive so that nothing can slip.
Extra tip: Here, you can also simply roll up a piece of Tixo so that it sticks on both sides. To do this, cut off a piece of Tixo, place the sticky side facing outward and stick the ends together well.
After drying, place the whole thing in the picture frame and hang it up or set it up.
From experience: A really great idea and truly beautiful to look at. My husband was thrilled and hung the pictures up right away.
Make beautiful cards with children for Father's Day
What you’ll need:
- construction paper
in bright colors
- scissors, possibly lever paper cutter
- possibly punches or punch set
- craft glue, Uhu Stick
- colorful Feathers
- possibly glitter pens

Now the children can decorate the card according to their own taste. Here you can use glitter in a shaker jar, Rhinestones

Extra tip: Cards are especially popular with fathers who do not like having things standing around. Cards can be stored wonderfully in a space-saving way.

Photo album like a friendship book for Dad
A beautiful but somewhat more elaborate craft for Father's Day is a scrapbook
What you’ll need:
- Scrapbook or photo album
- Paper
- pens
- photos of the children
Instructions:
A truly wonderful gift is a self-designed scrapbook for Dad. To do this, write down or print out a few questions on a piece of paper and have the children fill them in, or if the children are still too young, simply have the parent fill them in and quote the children. The following lines can be included here:
- Name/nickname of the children
- This is what you call me
- This is what I like doing with Dad/YOU
- Dad's/YOUR best saying
- My best experience with Dad/YOU
- My best vacation with Dad/YOU
- This is what I want to be someday

From experience, I recommend that if the children fill it in themselves, first let them work on slips of paper, as mistakes can happen here. Decorate the completed pages nicely and then simply glue them into the photo album.
If pages in the photo album are left blank, the children can decorate them with photos of the children or with pens or stickers, etc.
It is a really lovely thoughtful gift for Dad; you will see, Dad will enjoy it too.
Coasters made from iron-on beads for Father's Day
So Dad can enjoy his cold beer and set it down on the table (and not get told off by Mom :-)):
What you’ll need:
- iron-on beads
- iron-on bead pegboards
- iron
- parchment paper
Instructions:
Choose a nice iron-on bead pegboard for the coasters. Now it can begin, and the children can distribute the colorful beads on the pegboards. Once the whole pegboard is full, it needs to be ironed. To do this, place a piece of paper over the iron-on beads and iron over the beads again and again on the lowest setting until they melt a little. Remove the coaster from the pegboard and let it cool. Wrap it nicely and present it.
From my husband's experience: The personal coaster is very practical and is gladly used.
Homemade box for Father's Day
What you’ll need:
- construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- pens or Zen Pens
- possibly colorful Feathers
Instructions:
For the box, cut out the colorful construction paper and glue it together in the desired shape. My daughter chose a heart shape. Here she made 2 boxes that can be fitted into each other. Decorate the box nicely and let it dry well. For Father's Day, of course, you can fill it with nice things, sweets or other little items that will make Dad happy.
From my husband's experience: Nice idea and can be refilled individually.
Make tea bags for Dad yourself
What you’ll need:
- tea filters
- embroidery floss
- needle
- Scissors
- loose tea that Dad likes to drink
Instructions:
First cut a motif out of the tea filter twice: a heart is of course a good choice here, but there are naturally other motifs too, such as a circle, star or triangle, etc. Now thread the embroidery floss onto the needle and sew the 2 filters together with large stitches – leave a small opening, fill the loose tea in here and only then sew it completely shut. Finally, sew in another piece of embroidery floss where you can attach a nice tag, so that you can easily pull the tea bag out of the cup. The tag can either be made from paper or from the tea-filter scraps. Of course, decorate this nicely too.
I think there are some ideas here that you will want to copy. They are all lovely gifts that will make Dad's heart beat faster. Important again here: it is not about who has the most beautiful, the most or the best; what counts here is that you have put thought into it and want to say thank you to Dad.
