What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant covers thinning areas with full hair again. This is done by taking hair from the donor area and implanting it in the bald area. For example, from the back of the head or behind the ears onto a bald spot.
Anyone who wants to find out about hair transplants online often feels overwhelmed by the flood of different methods. So here is a brief overview:
- The FUT technique: Here, entire strips are cut from the scalp and transplanted to the new area. This method is NOT used at Cosmedica
- The FUE technique: Here, the grafts, i.e. the transplants, are removed individually and transplanted to their new location. Cosmedica – Dr. Acar uses the FUE technique to extract the grafts.
- The DHI technique: With the DHI technique, the grafts are implanted safely using a Choi Implanter and not with tweezers as is usually the case. Dr. Acar uses the micro DHI Sapphire method for his hair transplants.
- The micro DHI Sapphire method: This method combines the best of the conventional DHI method and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Sapphire. Can you see a hair transplant?

When can you see the final result?
The final result can be seen after about 8 to 12 months. Due to the stress of the transplant, the transplanted hair usually falls out after 3 to 4 weeks at first. But only the hair, not the hair roots! This phenomenon is called “shedding.”
Can the transplanted hair fall out again?
If you are very lucky, the transplanted hair will continue to grow strongly from the very beginning. In most people, however, it initially falls out during the first month because the hair root enters a resting phase in order to regenerate and take root.
After this resting phase, a new hair grows from the follicle. These hairs normally do not fall out again for the rest of your life, as long as they are supplied with all the necessary nutrients.

A hair transplant using the Follicular Unit Extraction technique is an effective method for hereditary hair loss. However, it is very expensive, and in most cases health insurance companies do not cover the costs.
