E-scooters have become a popular means of transport. Riders zip quickly and agilely through city centers, usually for the last few meters to the nearest bus stop or to work. E-scooters are also very popular with children and teenagers in their free time. Sometimes you can also see the occasional adult rider on these zippy electric vehicles. Which helmet is the right headgear for an electric scooter? A full-face or flip-up helmet would probably be a bit excessive. However, there are bicycle helmets in various half-shell models that are very well suited for a ride on an e-scooter.
An e-scooter helmet must fit well
For e-scooters that do not travel faster than 20 km/h, there is no mandatory helmet requirement. However, since riders are traveling quite fast on their e-scooters, a helmet should be in their own interest. There is no helmet specifically approved for e-scooters. To ensure the helmet sits correctly on your head, the right size is essential. Place a tape measure two fingers' width above your eyebrows to the back of your head. Your head circumference in centimeters corresponds to the appropriate helmet size. A helmet for an e-scooter should fit well even when the fastener is open and should not slip backward. There are fasteners with a dial and a ratchet. Just try out which version you prefer.
Test seals for e-scooter helmets
Various models are suitable for e-scooters, for example:

- Modular helmet
Regardless of which helmet design you choose, a test seal is mandatory. Do not resort to supposedly cheap models from distant countries, as these generally do not have any test certificates and are usually made of inferior materials. Your helmet for the e-scooter should meet the requirements of the DIN standard EN1080 (CE) or the EU standard 1078 (CE). Another test seal is the ECE 22.05.
Racing helmets
Road bike helmets are the lightweights among bicycle helmets because they have to be just as aerodynamic as the road bike itself. Therefore, they fit perfectly with a brisk ride on an e-scooter. Racing helmets are the all-rounders among bicycle helmets that fit every situation. They are available in different designs, for example with a lower-cut neck area or a lower-cut forehead area.
However, all the helmets mentioned above have one thing in common: high quality, provided they have a state-recognized test seal. The helmet shell is made of high-quality industrial plastic, either polycarbonate or duroplast.
