After some time, gold jewelry can lose its shine due to dirt and damage. Jewelry worn on the skin is particularly susceptible to discoloration and damage. Rings, necklaces, and bracelets, for example, get dirty more quickly than earrings and brooches because they come into greater contact with things such as sweat and skin care products. To remove tarnish and dirt and make your jewelry shine again, you should clean and care for your gold jewelry from time to time. What is the best way to do this? We share tips and tricks on how you can clean your jewelry yourself.

Cleaning gold jewelry without diamonds

Gold jewelry does not discolor as quickly as silver, but it can also lose its shine. Gold is a precious metal, so be especially careful when cleaning your jewelry. To restore or maintain the shine of gold jewelry (without diamonds, gemstones, pearls, and so on), the best thing to do is the following. Use a little soap and lukewarm water and soak the piece of jewelry in the water and soap mixture. Gently brush the jewelry with a soft toothbrush to remove dirt. Then rinse the jewelry with lukewarm water. Finally, dry the gold jewelry thoroughly with a flannel cloth and then polish it with a treated gold cloth.

Cleaning gold jewelry with diamonds

Diamonds can also become dull from skin oils, soap, and skin creams. Of course, it is a shame when a diamond loses its shine and sparkle, because it is this sparkle that makes a diamond irresistible. To make your diamonds shine again, the best way to clean them is as follows. Mix lukewarm water with a mild liquid detergent or delicate laundry detergent. Place the Gold jewelry with diamonds into it. To prevent the loss of diamonds, gently brush the diamond with a soft toothbrush. Place the gold jewelry in a fine sieve and rinse it under running lukewarm water.

Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth when you are finished.

To make a diamond ring without shine sparkle again, you can use an effervescent denture-cleaning tablet. Put an effervescent tablet in a glass of water. Let the tablet dissolve completely, then place your gold ring with diamond or other diamond jewelry in the glass. After a few minutes, take the piece of jewelry out of the water and rinse it under the tap with lukewarm water. Gently wipe the piece of jewelry dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

If you would rather not use regular soap, buy a jar of high-quality liquid jewelry cleaner. The container contains a sieve into which you can dip your jewelry in the liquid, then move it back and forth in the liquid, rinse the jewelry in the sieve under the tap, and that’s it. After rinsing, carefully dry the jewelry with a fine, lint-free cloth. For extra shine, you can rub the jewelry with a special cloth for gold or silver.
