8-year-old children are very happy to receive gifts. At this age, there are some very nice board games and books – yes, I know, those are naturally my favorites when it comes to gifts. But of course, there are many more things and items that can bring joy to children aged 8 and up.

Board games for children aged 8 and up there are plenty of. We love playing games and now have a nice collection. Currently, our favorites are 'The Crazy Labyrinth', 'Crazy Race', 'The Game of Life', or Make’n’Break.

Game console for children
Here, I always advise not to demonize everything electronic and keep it away from the children. Especially when you have to take a look at yourself because you are constantly on your phone :-). Find out exactly which games are available, because there are also many educational games or skill-based games. Then it's a matter of which Game console is the right one for you. Most people start with the Nintendo Switch or a Wii. Many consoles also have movement or sports games, so that parents can perhaps use them meaningfully as well. And at the latest, when you have a Just Dance afternoon with the kids, many concerns are wiped away.
Extra tip: Agree on playing times. Set a time frame. Do not park the children in front of the devices and let them play for hours.
Diamond painting for children aged 8 and up
Brand new are Diamond Painting pictures, which make a nice gift for children. Here, small 'diamonds' are placed on an adhesive picture using a pen. During this activity, children can relax and clear their heads. Along the way, beautiful works of art are created, which you can of course also hang up.
Glitter pictures
At 8 years old, children are happy about Glitter pictures. The picture as a template is sticky and you just have to pour the color-matching sand over the picture, creating beautiful works of art.
Puzzles for children aged 8 and up
A Puzzles are a nice activity for children. There is a lot of choice here and no longer just the classic puzzles, but also 3D puzzles.

At this age, many children still love to do crafts. So great craft sets, beautiful paper, and many colorful pens can be purchased. Also ideal as a small gift for invitations or birthdays.
Sticker book for children aged 8 and up
Sticking stickers remains popular for some well into old age (yes, for some it's football stickers :-)), so Sticker books are very nice gifts for children aged 8 and up.
Lego
Even at this age, Lego is still very popular. The sets are staggered by age and naturally become trickier here. Here you can find many well-known heroes, such as Lego Star Wars, Lego Superheroes, Lego Elves or Lego Nexo Knights
Also, sets like Lego City or Lego Friends are very nice for children so that everyday themes can be implemented playfully.
Gym ball for children
Our daughter wanted a gym ball, and I thought that was a nice idea. She sometimes sits on it while reading, doing homework, or at the computer. And psst, when the child is not there, you can 'borrow' it yourself for exercises or at the desk.
Technical toys for children aged 8 and up
Many children like to build things, so a technical toy is a nice gift. Not only Lego has nice technical kits, but Fisher Technik is also highly recommended. Our daughter wanted the marble run and is very happy with it.
Experiments for children
If children like to experiment, there are wonderful experiment sets for little scientists on all sorts of topics.
Nerf guns for children aged 8 and up
I know, opinions are divided here; many are strictly against Nerf guns as toys for children. We allowed it, because even if we don't allow it, children often build or craft swords or pistols out of twigs or sticks. I don't know why, but children often play such games. We gave the children rules, such as not aiming at the head, or bought special glasses as protection, not shooting too close, etc. It always worked great and the parties with the Nerf guns were always a hit. It was really nice to see how they teamed up and worked out strategies on how to corner the other group.
Cushions and blankets for the children's room
At this age, children start to decide for themselves what they want to have in their room. Nice decorative cushions and blankets, preferably in the child's favorite color, are always a good purchase. Just when there are guests and not everyone has a seat, the cushions can be spread out on the floor, and everyone has a soft spot. Furthermore, our children like to play with them. They build caves where all the blankets and cushions are stowed away.
Wipeable whiteboard
It is a nice thing for children to be able to draw or write and then erase it again. Here, notes for school can be made, or simply beautiful drawings. With a wipeable whiteboard and the matching pens, children can let their imagination run wild.
Extra tip: I recommend pens that have a sponge on the back for wiping. The whiteboard can be larger; I took DIN A1 for our daughter. She loves it.
Zen Pens
A nice craft idea are Zen Pen pens. With these pearl pens, wonderful paintings can be made. But you can't just paint here; with these pens, picture frames can be decorated, stones embellished, cards designed, and much more. I have also enjoyed painting and decorating with these pens.
Painting pictures
If the child likes to paint, then coloring templates, such as paint-by-numbers or watercolor pictures are a good option. There are beautiful templates for children aged 8 and up.
Jewelry
Children also want to make themselves look pretty sometimes; here you can already buy the first jewelry. Here I can recommend the Shop New One. Really beautiful, rather subtle and delicate pieces of jewelry that are not expensive.
Balls for children
Balls are and remain popular with children. At this age, they don't have to be soft(er) or colorful balls anymore. Usually, specific balls from well-known brands or original footballs are desired. It's nice that the child can play alone or with others with a ball. Whether volleyball, basketball, or handball, just let the child try out what they like.
Sports equipment
Children usually like to move around a lot, and it makes sense to support this and provide Sports equipment. Depending on interest, ice skates, inline skatesor askateboard are a nice gift.
stuffed animals
For us, even at this age, stuffed animals can still be found on the wish list. But of course, not just any, but special ones, such as this unicorn that looks like a cushion. Interestingly, our children also like the stuffed animals at Ikea.
Designing a photo album
If you want to give something more personal and have a little more time, you can try a photo album. Glue photos of the child into an album or a photo box, decorate, label, and give as a gift – from experience, such gifts are really very, very well received. Try it out.
Extra tip: really plan some time here; photos have to be selected and developed. If you want to decorate or label a bit, it can take a few hours. If you are not so skilled or prefer to work with a template, take a photo book to fill in.
Books for children aged 8 and up
Books for children aged 8 and up are also a nice gift. Here I can warmly recommend the series 'The School of Magical Animals' for both boys and girls. In this series, several topics for children are covered, such as moving, friendship, and very importantly, helping each other.
