I have always wanted a miniature garden, and without telling me, my daughter made me one for Mother's Day. I am blown away; she put it together so beautifully, and it was quite an effort. Here is a list of what is needed and instructions on how to create a miniature garden:

Instructions for creating a miniature garden yourself

What you’ll need:

  • Flower box, flower bowl, or something recycled, like a wooden crate or a drawer
  • Potting soil
  • Small flowers and plants or small trees, moss
  • Large and/or small stones, or sand
  • Miniature decoration: small wooden bridge, swing, small house, figurines, small table and chairs, etc.
  • Scissors
  • Edding marker

Instructions:

I recommend first making a rough sketch of the elements in the mini garden. Do I want more decoration or more plants? What theme do I want for my garden? Should it include a path? With these points, you can easily gauge the space, buy the items specifically, and then just place them. This ensures you don't have too many or too few plants and decorations.

Depending on the container you have chosen, the base comes next. For example, if you want to use a wooden crate, line it with foil and add small stones as a drainage layer. My daughter chose a nice large flower box, where she just filled in the soil.

Now insert the selected plants; beautiful flowers or green plants like succulents or small trees can be used here. We used 3 flowering perennials, 1 green plant, and some fresh moss. My daughter made a beautiful little house out of an old plastic flower pot. She drew a window on the pot with an Edding marker and cut out a door. She put dried moss on the house – very commendable, right? A green roof ?

She laid out a river with medium-sized stones and placed a small wooden bridge over it. It is also very nice to scatter a path made of sand and border it with small stones.

Finally, the miniature decoration: We have lots of figurines and animals, as well as small beautiful signs in our miniature garden.

Ideas for decorating a miniature garden

Create a miniature garden - DecorationThere are some great variations here: for example, if you have a small tree, you can hang a small swing or decorate the tree with small lanterns. Small garden furniture or garden tools distributed in the garden are also nice. Some people build entire villages with several small houses, stones, and a fence all around. The plants can also be bordered with stones or small fences.

Natural materials like wood or stone are beautiful and can be incorporated into the mini garden.

It is original to create the garden according to a theme: a Mediterranean garden perhaps even with mini palms or succulents and a deck chair. Or a mountain garden with suitable plants and many paths for hiking.

Such a miniature garden is a wonderful gift – I received this as a gift and was thrilled! Why not try it out yourself!
