In many cases, household pests and insects are fought with chemical clubs. However, there are various ways to prevent these nuisances and eliminate them using natural, non-toxic methods.

Preventing pests

Preventive measures can help and protect your household from a pest infestation. Insects such as moths, ants and mice can be kept from settling in your home with simple means.

Preventing pests in food supplies

Open food acts like a magnet for pests and insects. To avoid attracting flies, beetles, and mice in the first place, you should ensure that you always store food in tightly sealed containers or jars. You should decant durable foods like flour, sugar, or muesli after purchase and check them for damage and contamination. Even after long storage, you should check that the products are still in perfect condition before consumption. You should immediately dispose of food infested with pests and check the entire cupboard for further infestation.

Keeping order and regular cleaning of the house

Order and cleanliness throughout the house can prevent pests from settling and multiplying unnoticed. If you discover a mouse nest in the basement, remove it immediately. The same applies to wasp nests and spider webs. This way, you give the nuisances no chance to nest and multiply undisturbed.

Combating fruit flies and vinegar flies

Fruit and vinegar flies are not dangerous, but they are all the more annoying. They are attracted by the smell of overripe fruit and lay their larvae on the fruit. A fruit fly has a lifespan of about ten days, but multiplies explosively. Therefore, you should act immediately if there are fruit flies in your kitchen. However, toxic chemicals should be avoided, especially in the kitchen. A better option is a fruit fly trap. This usually consists of a colorful plastic container filled with an attractant. The colorful plastic itself acts as an attractant for fruit flies, and the lure is irresistible. The flies therefore land in the container and cannot get out again.

Natural moth control

Different types of moths can occur in the household. Besides the clothes moth, the Indian meal moth is the most widespread. Their larvae can even eat through paper and plastic packaging to get to the contents. There, they can multiply and infest entire pantry cupboards within a very short time. One way to combat them is to use a beneficial insect. A natural enemy of the moth is the trichogramma wasp. This is not comparable to the well-known wasp. It is only about 0.3 mm in size and harmless. You can, for example, buy trichogramma wasps online. A little later, you will receive the trichogramma wasps by mail. The beneficial insects are delivered as eggs on cards. Each card contains around 3000 animals. You place the card at the infested location, for example in the pantry, in the storage cupboard, or in the wardrobe. After a short time, the trichogramma wasps hatch. They feed exclusively on moth eggs and also lay their own eggs inside them. The lifespan of trichogramma wasps is up to two weeks. Within a very short time, you can get the moth infestation under control. You will not even notice the trichogramma wasps themselves. You can also use them preventively and regularly clear endangered areas in your household of potential moths.
