We wanted to go on vacation together with friends: sandy beach, hotel with pool, and half-board for a week in July. We decided on the Hotel Carema Beach Hotel in Menorca. Here are our experiences:
The Hotel Experience Report – Hotel Carema Beach – Menorca
The Hotel Carema Beach in Cala’n Bosch, in Menorca, Spain, is located directly at a beach access point and has a pool.
Room
We had an apartment, i.e., with one bedroom, a bathroom with a toilet, a living room with a pull-out couch for the children, and a balcony with a view of the complex.
Beach
The hotel has direct beach access; you can get there via a lockable door. The sun loungers there must be paid for separately, and the beach is shared with other hotels. The sand is nice and fine, the bay is small, and there are hardly any waves.
Pool
The hotel has a pool; it is sloped, meaning it is shallower on the front side for the children and deeper at the back.
Sports
Nothing is offered here.
Entertainment
Nothing is offered here.
Food service
We had half-board, and there is a breakfast and dinner buffet. In the evening, we sat at the bar, and you could also get a cocktail.
Excursions
We didn't take any, we just went for a few walks in the area and to the harbor; there are several restaurants and bars here.
Price
We paid € 4,517 for the hotel including flights for 4 people (2 adults, 2 children aged 9) for 1 week.(As of 2018)
Conclusion
I don't even know where to start here. In our apartment, the couch was so wobbly and kept rolling back if you didn't sit on it carefully. Really uncomfortable for the children. We complained about it, but of course, it couldn't be fixed, and all the rooms were full. I felt so sorry for the children; it wasn't very nice for sleeping.
In July, it was accordingly crowded. There was hardly any space to lie down or swim, whether at the pool or by the sea. It was soooo crowded on the beach and at the pool; I found it very unpleasant.
Nothing is offered at the hotel, no sports, no entertainment; there is nothing for children to do except swim. Our children wanted to play ball in the complex a little; the lawn is artificial turf and is vacuumed daily (!). The children were reprimanded there; you are not allowed to play here. Not very child-friendly there.
For the size of the complex and the number of guests, one pool is not enough. Furthermore, my husband and my daughter had earaches after the vacation; apparently, there was too little chlorine in the water, or they simply couldn't keep up with the number of people.
The food was not special; I didn't like it, and then I didn't tolerate it well either. At lunchtime, we sometimes went to a burger place just around the corner; otherwise, we got fruit.
Since almost all of us were sick, we didn't take a single excursion.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel at all; for what it offers, it was far too expensive.
