For our wellness vacation in September, my girlfriend and I chose the 4-star Schlössl Hotel Kindl in Bad Gleichenberg in Styria to relax and unwind. A few days just to chill out, spa, good food – just to take it easy. You can read our experiences here:
The Schlössl Hotel Kindl in Bad Gleichenberg in Styria
The hotel's name says it all: it is really built like a small castle and is nicely set a little off the beaten path. Everything is very nicely furnished and you feel like a damsel in a castle.
Room
We had a standard double room with a double bed, bathroom and a view of the pool on the 4th floor. Our room was really nicely furnished, large and bright; the only thing was that, as one of the few, we didn't have a balcony, but only a larger window.
Thermal baths & pools & garden
The wellness area consists of an indoor pool, 2 outdoor pools, as well as a whirlpool. The pools are partly filled with Styrian thermal water and are pleasantly warm.
The hotel also features a sauna, brine steam bath, rose steam bath, Vulkanland sauna, infrared cabin and sanarium hut. If you want to rest afterwards, you can use the 3 available relaxation rooms. For sunbathing there is a lovely sun terrace with a view.
Naturists (FKK enthusiasts) can use a separate FKK area; there is also a sauna and a whirlpool there.
Those who want to exercise can use the hotel's fitness studio.
Catering
We had full board at the hotel, so there was a hearty breakfast buffet in the morning. At midday there were various soups, crisp salads and a hot main course. The highlight in the evening is the dinner menu consisting of 6 courses.
You can end the evening in the Orleans bar.
Price
The two of us paid € 912,- for a double room with full board for 4 nights.(As of 2021)
Excursions
From the hotel you can take a pleasant walk and reach Bad Gleichenberg directly. We walked through a beautiful park.
There are some nice excursion destinations nearby, such as Riegersburg Castle, Styrassic Park, or Zotter.

Conclusion
We really enjoyed our time at Hotel Kindl in Bad Gleichenberg. You stay in a beautiful castle; everything from the room to the restaurant is wonderfully furnished. The service was really very good, the staff very friendly. We were given a glass of sparkling wine on arrival. The food was excellent, truly great creations. We were able to relax nicely here and really enjoyed our stay.
On the return trip we made a stop at the Zotter chocolate factory. It was a really great excursion and we liked it very much. We went there spontaneously and were lucky that there was still a spot available for a tour. Otherwise I recommend reserving online, the spots go quickly.
