In the majority of Austrian households, the television is as much a natural part of the interior as the sofa, bed, or refrigerator. But how can you make consumer electronics look good in the living room, bedroom, or hobby room?

The right position for your TV

In 2021, Austrians spent 203 minutes a day in front of the TV. You will have a comfortable time in front of the TV if you find a good position for it. The angle to the window plays an important role in avoiding annoying reflections or light spots on the screen.

A room with several windows as well as a balcony or patio door makes it difficult to find a suitable place for consumer electronics. Preferably, choose a spot that is not exposed to direct daylight. It is less favorable if the TV is next to a window. If the sun shines through the glass, you as the viewer will be looking directly into the light.

For recommended positioning, the TV should be at a right angle to the window or balcony door. If a lack of space or missing connections stand in the way of this option, the following can help:

  • Drapes
  • Pleated blinds
  • Roller shutters
  • Blinds

They serve as sun protection so that the light does not impair the TV picture.

TV furniture as a stylish positioning aid for the TV

Once you have decided where in the room the TV will be placed, the question of height arises. Should the device hang or stand?

This decision influences the viewing experience. If you position the TV too high, you will crane your neck during the program. This feels uncomfortable and poses health risks. A screen that is mounted too low requires a constant downward gaze. This position can also strain the neck muscles.

Preferably, the bottom edge of the TV should be at eye level for seated viewers. Therefore, the seat height of the sofa or armchair influences the choice of position. If the device is hanging on the wall, a common value to remember is about one meter from the floor. Alternatively, you can opt for TV furniture such as sideboards, lowboards, or TV stands, on which the TV can be stylishly placed.

The distance to the screen influences the TV experience

The location and position for the TV are set. You will get a pleasant viewing experience with the right seating distance from the device. Factors such as room size, the distribution of seating furniture in the room, and the size of the TV influence this decision.

To determine the distance to it, the rule of thumb helps: there should be three times the length of the screen diagonal between the TV and the seat. If this is two meters for an XL TV, a seating distance of six meters is recommended. If there is a small TV with a screen diagonal of 55 centimeters in the room, a distance of about 1.60 meters is sufficient.

Colorful walls or extravagant wallpaper as a TV background

For series and movie fans, the TV is the centerpiece of the living room. With exciting wall design behind the device, you visually highlight this fact. To stylishly integrate consumer electronics into a room, choose different wall colors. For the area around the TV, choose intense tones such as:

  • Dark red
  • Petrol
  • Forest green
  • Turquoise
  • Lemon yellow

Which color you choose depends on your preferences and the basic room design. A powerful wall color draws the viewer's gaze, so that both the TV and the TV furniture are in focus at the same time.

As an alternative to an intense wall color, eye-catching wallpaper is an option. In a country-style living room, a floral pattern decorates the wall behind the TV. If you prefer the industrial style, choose a brick or metallic look as the wallpaper pattern. Design other walls of the room in subtle nuances.

Conclusion: TV position and room design affect the TV experience

When choosing a place for the TV, pay attention to the position relative to the windows and the correct height. Both factors, like the seating distance from the device, influence a comfortable viewing experience. If you want a prominent position for the TV, emphasize it with modern TV furniture or striking wall design in the background.
