On average, every Austrian woman owns 85 items of clothing and yet many are tormented by one question: “What should I wear?”. To simplify the proverbial agony of choice, the wardrobe should not only consist of it-pieces, but also be equipped with fashion basics. These can be easily combined and can thus put an end to the widespread problem of “I have nothing to wear.”
More than basic: These garments are fashionable must-haves
Basic – what initially sounds “lame” should not be missing from any wardrobe. Because these are timeless classics in colors that are particularly easy to combine. The five most important basic garments include:
1. The white T-shirt
Anyone looking for fashionable women's clothing can look forward to a wide selection of colors and patterns. In comparison, a white T-shirt seems downright boring. But when it comes to styling, it quickly becomes indispensable, after all, it goes with just about everything. Combined with suit trousers, jeans, a pencil skirt or a flowing boho skirt, it cuts a fine figure. It can also be worn under thick sweaters and excitingly patterned cardigans without drawing too much attention to itself.
2. The light-colored shirt blouse
If the look is meant to appear professional, the T-shirt is often replaced by an elegant blouse. While vintage and ruffled blouses are pretty but don't go with every outfit, the shirt blouse is a true all-rounder. In light colors such as white, cream, beige or yellow, it harmonizes with a dark business suit just as well as with faded jeans. To dare a fashionable break in style, women combine the fashion basic with black leather trousers or a leather skirt and chunky boots.
3. The jeans
Since their invention in May 1873 jeans have taken the fashion world by storm. It is therefore no surprise that at least one well-fitting pair is hidden in almost every wardrobe. Anyone who does not yet own a pair of jeans should put them on their shopping list by their next shopping trip at the latest. After all, this denim legwear can be worn with numerous clothing styles:
- as dark studded jeans, cool and rocky
- as boyfriend jeans, comfortable and casual
- as mom jeans, a little retro
- as skinny jeans, especially sexy
If you want to limit yourself to just one pair of jeans, you are well advised to choose the classic jeans cut. It is casual and figure-hugging at the same time – a true all-rounder.
4. The “little black dress”
Coco Chanel is considered the inventor of the so-called “little black dress,” a black sheath dress. Its elegant shape and classic color predestine it as a party and business dress. It is paired with chic shoes, elegant jewelry and an individual perfume – and the wow outfit is complete.
Those who prefer a casual style wear a white denim jacket or a cozy cardigan over the sheath dress. Together with comfortable sneakers or flat boots, this creates a luxury boho look, which goes well with long fringe earrings and layered necklaces, for example. The “little black dress” also harmonizes very well with our next classic.
5. The leather jacket
It is cool, it is modern, and yet it has a certain retro charm. A brown or black leather jacket complements a glittering party outfit just as well as a cute summer dress or the simple combination of T-shirt and jeans. For a touch of elegance, a tailored cut is recommended, perhaps with stylish peplums. By contrast, looser-cut leather jackets in a used style or with studs are more intended for a rock attitude.
