Lantern made from recycled glass with stones

Are you planning a big garden party and don't have enough lanterns? That can be changed very quickly; here is an idea on how to quickly and inexpensively create decorative lanterns yourself.

DIY quick and cheap lanterns

What you’ll need:

A few things are needed to craft the lantern:

  • nice large glass jars (jam or pickle jars)
  • pebbles, sand
  • decoration: flowers, leaves
  • tea lights or pillar candles
  • possibly thin wire, ropes

Instructions for the DIY lanterns

Wash the glass jars thoroughly, dry them, and fill them with the stones or sand. Just don't fill them too high; the candle must remain inside the glass so that a gust of wind cannot blow it out. Then place the candle inside and decorate with the flowers.

Lanterns for hanging

For a garden party, it looks nice to hang a few jars on branches or on the fence. To do this, simply tie thin wire around the jars and then hang them on wire or ropes.
