A homemade lip balm is like a little magic trick from nature: few ingredients, big effect. With beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter, you can create a nourishing balm in minutes that protects, nourishes, and makes your lips heavenly soft. These three natural helpers complement each other perfectly – the beeswax gently seals, the coconut oil provides suppleness, and the shea butter delivers intensive care. With a little lipstick, it also adds a bit of color to your lips. Ideal for anyone who wants to make something simple, natural, and inexpensive. Ideal as a small hostess gift or homemade Christmas present:
Recipe for a Homemade Lip Balm with Vanilla and Coconut
Ingredients for approx. 56 g lip balm:
- 8 g beeswax (from a beekeeper, or Amazon)
- 20 g coconut oil (Amazon, I bought this Coconut oil bought)
- 20 g shea butter (Amazon, I bought this Shea butter bought)
- 4 drops vanilla flavoring
- 1 cm lipstick
- small cream jars with screw lids (Amazon, I bought this cream jars bought)
- empty jam jar
- wooden spoon
Quantity info: I ended up with approx. 56 g of solid lip balm. My jars held about 4 g of lip balm each. I needed 14 empty jars.

Instructions:
Prepare small clean jars on a piece of newspaper where the balm will be poured in. I always spilled a little while filling them, hence the newspaper as a base.
Prepare a water bath for melting. To do this, place a large saucepan on the stove, put the jam jar in the saucepan, and fill the pot with water until the jar is about 5 cm deep in the water – careful, no water must get into the jam jar.
Extra info: always place the jar in cold water, otherwise it can crack!
The water does not need to boil; the ingredients melt even at low temperatures. I selected a medium temperature on the stove.
Start with the beeswax: put it in the jar and place it in the water bath.

Now heat the stove to medium temperature and wait until it is well melted, stirring with the wooden spoon if necessary.

Next, add the coconut oil and shea butter. Stir everything well until it forms a nice homogeneous mixture.

Finally, add the vanilla and the lipstick. Start with just a small amount of lipstick; it’s best to cut off a few small slices from a lipstick and add them. If you want a stronger color, add 0.5 cm or even up to 1 cm. Stir everything well again until it has combined nicely. When the balm solidifies, the color changes; just take the wooden spoon out of the jar and wait until it becomes firm. Then you will see what the color will look like in its solid state.

If you like the color, you can start filling the jars; otherwise add a little more lipstick and let it warm up again.
Now it’s best to take the jar out of the water bath with a kitchen towel, glove, or tongs – careful, the jar is hot!
Quickly pour the balm into the small jars before it becomes too firm. If it has nevertheless become too firm for you, put the jar back into the water bath and let it warm up.

Now let the lip balm cool well, screw on the lids, label, and decorate.
