The weekly grocery shop is part of everyday life for everyone, and depending on the size of the family, you have more or less to buy. We are a fixed group of 4 people, sometimes with visitors, and I cook almost every day, sometimes several times a day. Because of my back pain, I started shopping online years ago. No sooner had I gotten used to the service (I mostly ordered from Billa or Interspar) than it was discontinued by both companies in the last six months. Now I've been shopping 'in person' a few times again and I have to admit: I can't get anything out of it at all anymore. It's a juggling act of products, which you really have to let sink in: first from the shelf into the cart, from the cart onto the conveyor belt, then back into the cart, getting annoyed because you don't have any coupon booklets with you, then you manage to get everything into the car, from the trunk into the house, and then you distribute it to the fridge or your pantry. Not once has anything been broken, forgotten, or bought incorrectly. I was all the more pleased when I read about gurkerl.at, which has also been delivering to Gänserndorf since this year. I absolutely had to try that out:

How shopping at Gurkerl.at works

The principle is simple and efficient: you go to the shop via the website and can immediately search for products or find them via the numerous categories. You can easily compare prices, and you immediately see a lot of information, e.g., whether it is organic, from a local producer, or currently on sale.

I see this as a decisive advantage of Gurkerl.at: the combination of a large selection and fresh products. In addition to well-known brands, there are also regional foods, organic products, and specialties that are often hard to find in a classic supermarket.

Many products come directly from producers, which has a positive effect on freshness and quality. This is an important factor, especially for fruit, vegetables, bread, or meat.

Gurkerl.at is also trying to break new ground when it comes to sustainability. Through optimized supply chains and bundled deliveries, CO2 emissions can be reduced. For example, there are Eco Slots: this means if a driver is already in your area during this time, you save €2 in delivery costs if delivery costs apply. You can recognize the Eco Slots by a green leaf when selecting your delivery window.

Extra info:You pay no delivery fee from €79.

In addition, you can decide whether the items are delivered in bags or in environmentally friendly fabric bags, which are simply taken back with the next order. Here you pay a one-time flat fee of €10 as a deposit. The shopping then looks like this, for example: The items were sorted: refrigerated items were together in bags, frozen items separately, and the remaining groceries were also together in fabric carrier bags:

It's great that there is a separate section for "Save Food". Here, items are displayed that should be consumed quite quickly and are therefore offered at a lower price. These are clearly marked with their expiration dates.

A customer account is only created after the 1st order. Now you can also create shopping lists and save products that you always buy or like as favorites. These can then be found even more easily and added to the shopping cart.

I am absolutely thrilled with the assortment; there are such great things, also many unusual ones, such as Asian items, sushi (!), many local producers like Neni, Joseph Brot, Knödelwerkstatt, Eismacher, meat from Esterhazy (also game!) – I could continue this list for much longer!

I was also very positively surprised by the delivery time: there were a lot of time slots available for me, and above all, it was super fast. I ordered at 11 p.m. and the next day at 11 a.m. my things were all there.

Advantages of online shopping at a glance from my point of view

I think that switching to online shopping brings these advantages:

  • Time savings: calculate how long you need for a shopping trip
  • Convenience: shopping possible around the clock
  • Predictability: delivery at the desired time
  • Overview: Easy comparison of prices and products
  • Up to date: as soon as we have the last pack of something, it goes on the online list
  • For everyone: in my case, all family members have access and can simply put their wishes into the shopping cart
  • Fewer impulse buys: You shop more purposefully, I rarely forget anything
  • Less stress: especially before holidays or weekends, you save yourself the fight for the groceries you want

Especially for families, working people, or people with little time, who are sick, or are not mobile, this is a noticeable relief in everyday life.

My experiences with an online grocery purchase at gurkerl.at

The online supermarket Gurkerl.at shows how simple and comfortable shopping can be today. Anyone who has experienced the combination of time savings, a large selection, and delivery to the front door will often no longer miss the classic supermarket visit. Especially in a hectic everyday life, where there is already so much to think about, this is a clear advantage. I am very satisfied with my purchase, from visiting the online shop, how quickly the delivery was delivered the next day, and how fresh and good all the groceries were.
