When I read about Dirty Soda on ORF.at, my first thought was: Cola with cream? Really? At first glance, that sounds more like a little kitchen accident. But of course, I was immediately curious, because basically, it's a quick summer drink with ice, lemonade, syrup, and a creamy splash added to it.
I experimented a bit and have to say: If you don't make it too sweet and use plenty of ice cubes, it tastes surprisingly good. Almost like a dessert in a glass, just made faster. Here are my favorite variations:
Dirty Soda – Basic Recipe
Ingredients for 1 large glass:
- plenty of ice cubes
- 200 to 250 ml cold lemonade, cola, or soda
- 1 to 2 tbsp syrup to taste
- 1 to 3 tbsp heavy cream, coffee cream, milk, coconut milk, or oat drink
- possibly some lemon or lime juice
- fruit, mint, or lime for decoration
Instructions:
Fill a large glass with ice cubes. First add the syrup, then fill with the well-chilled lemonade or cola. Finally, slowly pour the cream or milk over it. I only stir briefly right before drinking, then it also looks nicely marbled in the glass.
Extra tip: If you prefer it less sweet, simply use mineral water instead of lemonade and a good syrup. Homemade Mint syrup.

Recipe for Dirty Soda with Cherry Cola
This variation was the first one we tried because cola and cherry just go well together. With lime, it's not quite as cloyingly sweet.
Ingredients for 1 glass:
- plenty of ice cubes
- 250 ml cola, well chilled
- 1 to 2 tbsp cherry syrup
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 2 tbsp heavy cream or coffee cream
- a few cherries for decoration
Instructions:
Put the ice cubes in a tall glass. Add cherry syrup and lime juice and fill with cola. Finally, slowly pour in the cream. If you like, add a cherry and a lime slice.
Extra info: I really wouldn't use too much cream here, otherwise it becomes very heavy. Two tablespoons are perfectly sufficient.
Recipe for Raspberry-Vanilla Dirty Soda
This is the prettiest variation, I think. It looks really summery because of the raspberries and tastes almost like a quick raspberry sundae in a glass.
Ingredients for 1 glass:
- plenty of ice cubes
- 2 tbsp raspberry syrup or 2 tbsp crushed raspberries
- 1 tsp vanilla syrup or some vanilla sugar
- 250 ml lemon soda or mineral water
- 2 tbsp milk, cream, or oat drink
- fresh raspberries and mint for decoration
Instructions:
Add raspberry syrup or crushed raspberries to the glass. Distribute ice cubes on top, add vanilla, and fill with lemon soda. Finally, slowly pour milk or cream over it and decorate with raspberries.
Extra tip: If children are drinking along, I prefer to use mineral water and only a little syrup. Then it's still fun and colorful, but not quite as sweet.

Recipe for Lime-Coconut Dirty Soda
This variation is a bit reminiscent of a vacation, especially if you like coconut. It's also a good idea if you don't want to use cola.
Ingredients for 1 glass:
- plenty of ice cubes
- 250 ml lemon soda or mineral water
- 1 to 2 tbsp coconut syrup
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 2 tbsp coconut milk or heavy cream
- lime slices
- possibly coconut flakes for decoration
Instructions:
Fill the glass with ice cubes. Add coconut syrup and lime juice and fill with lemonade or mineral water. Slowly let the coconut milk or cream run in. Decorate with lime slices and serve immediately.
Extra info: Shake the coconut milk well beforehand, otherwise you'll only have the solid cream on top and the water at the bottom. That tastes fine too, but it doesn't stir in as nicely.
Dirty Soda Bar for a party
For a party, I think the idea is really nice: Simply set out ice cubes, various lemonades, syrups, cream, oat drink, coconut milk, limes, berries, and mint, and everyone mixes their own glass. This can also be prepared well and looks very pretty on the table.
Extra tip: Place small labels next to the syrup varieties, otherwise everything will quickly be poured together. Although – sometimes that's exactly how the best mixtures are created.
