Chlorine, salt, sweat and sunscreen remain in the fibers after a day of swimming. If UV shirts and swimwear are left damp in the bag, odor and elasticity suffer. Rinsing with clear water, gentle washing and drying in the shade keeps summer gear in shape longer.
Rinse immediately after swimming
Rinse swimwear and UV shirts as soon as possible after the sea or pool with clear, cool to lukewarm water. This removes some salt, chlorine and sand. Then gently squeeze out the water only. Strong wringing stresses elastic fibers and seams.
Follow the care label.
- Choose wash temperature and cycle according to the label.
- Separate light and dark colors.
- Turn garments inside out.
- Use a mild color or delicate detergent appropriate for the material.
- Avoid fabric softener, especially with functional and stretch materials.
A higher temperature does not automatically make swimwear more hygienic, but can stress elastics and colors. For delicate textiles, the prescribed gentle cycle is more important than a general temperature value.
Pre-treat sunscreen stains
Do not set stains with high heat. Gently remove excess cream and pre-treat the area according to the care instructions with a suitable stain remover or a little appropriate detergent. Test first on an inconspicuous area. Aggressive bleach can damage colors and functional fabrics.
Dry in the shade
Hang UV shirts and swimwear loosely and well ventilated. Use direct sunlight, radiators and tumble dryers only if the label explicitly allows it. Wide hangers prevent pressure marks; heavy wet items can be dried flat.
Keep the sun hat in shape
- First shake out or brush off sand and dry dirt.
- Only wash according to care instructions.
- Do not crease or twist the brim.
- Let the hat dry flat or over a suitable round form.
- Store in a suitcase or wardrobe only when completely dry.
When to replace summer textiles
Stretched out, heavily thinned or damaged UV clothing may no longer protect as intended. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and replace items when material, seams or fit have noticeably deteriorated.
Caution
- Empty swim bag after visiting an outdoor pool or lake.
- Dry laundry promptly in muggy conditions.
- Applying sunscreen correctly
