In the video for the 17th week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at, important information and tips for pregnancy in week 17 are presented.
You are now in the 17th week of pregnancy and are experiencing the beautiful times of pregnancy, as your hormone levels have leveled off. Your child is also doing excellently – the fetus is about 14 weeks old, has reached a total length of 16cm, and weighs approximately 135g. Growth is now progressing rapidly; the legs have now even overtaken the arms in length.
The child's movements are now more controlled and are steadily increasing. At the same time, the baby keeps drinking amniotic fluid and eventually excretes it after digestion. A little bit of waste products is also gradually collecting in the intestine, so that the entire digestive system can be trained. By sucking, swallowing, and breathing, the fetus practices regularly for the time after birth – and a little more every day.
The baby in the 17th week
Believe it or not: you have found a listener. The baby is now all ears and is listening to the words of the mother and other people who are in the immediate vicinity. The hearing is now developed enough to perceive the first sounds. The baby naturally finds the mother's voice most interesting and loves your words above all else. The intimate bond is becoming closer day by day and is being intensified.
Plan your vacation now
Would you perhaps like to travel? Now is an ideal time – the Pregnancy can no longer be hidden, yet the round belly does not interfere with activities in any way. However, there are several reasons not to travel too far: your body has to adjust to flights or longer journeys, for example. Also, climate changes and different diets are sometimes difficult for a pregnant woman to reconcile.
At best, think of vacation destinations with good medical care and perhaps discuss any concerns with your doctor or midwife before planning your vacation.
Important for long car journeys: make sure that the seat belt is below the belly so that in the event of a possible impact, your upper body, the baby, and the internal organs do not have to suffer. Move the car seat as far back as possible so that the airbag cannot hit you too hard in an accident, and the backrest should also be set stably.
Preventive check-ups
During the preventive check-ups, the gynecologist or the medical assistants will take a drop of blood from your fingertip to check the iron level. If the so-called Hb value drops below 12, you will be provided with iron tablets so that both the expectant mother and the unborn child receive sufficient red blood cells.
Around the 17th week of pregnancy, most women perceive the first fetal movements. As a rule, this perception is described as "fluttering," "bubbling," or "tickling." Many women do not yet suspect during their first pregnancy that these were the first knocks of the belly dweller and perhaps attribute it to digestion or possible flatulence. For first-time mothers, it is not unusual to feel the first movements in the next week or the week after.
With the beginning of the kicks and nudges, the whole pregnancy also takes on a truly new dimension. The pregnant woman finally feels the life that is growing inside her and knows that the child is doing well. However, do not panic or despair if you feel the child only rarely at first. On some days the child moves less, on others more. In reality, it is constantly training its limbs – you may only feel something of this rarely. In the coming weeks and with the increasing size of the baby, you will enjoy the kicks and nudges more often.
