In the video for the 19th week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 19 are presented.
You are now in the 19th week of pregnancy, your child is now about 18 cm long and has reached a weight of 220g. The pregnancy is now becoming more and more interesting for you because the child is now drawing attention to itself more frequently with kicks. So far, it still has plenty of room for its gymnastics and can train its movements in a targeted manner.
The first metabolic products that will be excreted after birth are now gradually collecting in the intestine. Since your child's first bowel movement will be very dark, it is generally referred to as "meconium". This excretion consists largely of dead cells, amniotic fluid, and digestive products.
Resting or being active?
In some cultures and countries, many pregnant women are cared for to such an extent that they no longer have to do anything. All necessary work is taken off their hands, so that these women temporarily really only sit and perform a kind of resting Pregnancy phase.
In the Western world, however, it is usually different – a large number of pregnant women still work until shortly before delivery. Offers for prenatal gymnastics or sports for pregnant women are gladly taken advantage of, which is indeed like wellness for the body and the soul. In these special sports programs, the exercises are partly designed in such a way that those muscle groups and body regions are particularly trained that will later be mainly burdened during delivery. If you are also in the mood for more exercise, especially because you might have a rather sedentary job or are not physically challenged at work, then feel free to participate in these sports programs – they can certainly help you to feel physically better and also prepare you for the upcoming birth.
Stretch marks
Perhaps you are also one of the numerous women who have now spotted the first stretch marks. This is, of course, because the abdominal circumference is constantly increasing. The uterus already weighs around 300g in this week of pregnancy – at the beginning it weighed barely 40g – and the placenta also adds a good 160g. Added to this is the weight of the amniotic fluid, the baby, and the growing breasts – all of this strains your skin without compromise. Even if these marks look red and cracked at first, do not worry: after pregnancy, these marks will become paler and pearlescent, so that they will be more or less barely visible. To prevent these marks as much as possible, you should pamper yourself several times a day with oils or special care products. This is not only a soothing massage for you, your child will also enjoy the caresses.
Learning relaxation
Since you have now almost reached the second half of pregnancy, learning the right relaxation is essential for you. Far too often, this important part is suppressed far too much, even though relaxation is sometimes extremely important for the upcoming birth. Since your partner also longs for rest and togetherness, you should perhaps try a partner massage. But moments for conversation are also helpful and can contribute to relaxation. For this, you may need a lot of time, in which togetherness or the communicative aspect must not be ignored.
Speak directly about fears and worries – you will see how liberated you feel after this conversation. Unfortunately, it happens very often that such barriers are built between partners because neither wants to admit their feelings. But this psychoprophylaxis is an important component in pregnancy both for you as a pregnant woman and for the expectant father and supports both parents throughout the entire pregnancy up to the birth of your child.
