To protect baby clothes from stains or too much spit-up, baby bibs have proven their worth. But which ones should you buy? Here are a few tips from me and my twins:
Which baby bibs for my baby?
Bibs with Velcro
The Bibs with Velcro I find very practical, as they are easy to put on and also very easy to take off. That's why I like to use them in the evening, because if the baby falls asleep, you can lay them down in their crib and easily remove the bib. Unfortunately, after a while, the Velcro doesn't hold as well, and the children get stronger and can sometimes pull the bib off themselves.
Full-coverage bibs with and without sleeves
Bibs that are pulled over the head, I find very practical when I am feeding my twins alone. Because here, they cannot tear the bib off themselves or let it slip. Especially when you start feeding them porridge, these are very practical. For porridge feeding, however, I recommend bibs with sleeves. These are very practical, especially with twins, since you can't always reach over immediately if one of them smears porridge into their sleeve.
Bibs with ties
Personally, I find these bibs rather impractical. At first, I used them and just tucked them under the baby's chin, since they couldn't grab anything yet anyway. But the more active and skillful the children became, the faster the bib was gone again.
In general, I can also say that the bibs should be rather larger and wider. At first, it might look funny when the whole baby disappears under the bib, but they grow so fast, and at the latest when you start feeding them porridge, you will know why size is indeed important for baby bibs.
Plastic bibs
As soon as the children started eating by themselves, the fabric bibs were swapped for Plastic bibs with a crumb catcher. Because during the first attempts at eating by themselves, a lot goes wrong. With this crumb catcher, at least the bulk of the mess was caught. These bibs are, of course, great for cleaning, as you just need to wash them off and they are reusable.
Old T-shirt as protection
I got this tip from a friend. When children really start eating by themselves, no eye stays dry and almost no piece of clothing stays clean. So that I didn't have to keep changing my twins' clothes, they wore my old T-shirts at every meal.
Thanks to these T-shirts, the main part of their clothing stayed clean, because due to the length, their pants and, of course, the shirt underneath also stayed clean, and I only ever had to wash the T-shirts right away. A great trick for me!
