In the video for the 23rd week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 23 are presented.
In the 23rd week of pregnancy, the baby is approximately 20 weeks old and has reached a total length of 27cm and a weight of just under 450g. The eyebrows and hair on the head continue to develop steadily from week to week, and eye activity is also increasing. This can now be seen very well during the ultrasound examinations, which are carried out at regular intervals during the Pregnancy by your doctor.
In relation to the rest of the body, the legs no longer look too short, but have increased in length. The muscles in the legs and arms also continue to grow, so that you will perceive your child's kicks and nudges more strongly during the coming weeks of pregnancy. The fetus's immune system is of course not yet fully developed, but it is already capable of warding off certain infections.
Your baby in the 23rd week
Have you noticed it yet? Every now and then the belly shakes. A strange yet funny feeling. The child now occasionally gets the hiccups, which causes this rhythmic shaking. This is, of course, because your child is training its digestion and the associated excretion at regular intervals. If it drinks amniotic fluid, it can sometimes lead to one or more "hiccups".
Since the child's brain is now developing very rapidly, it perceives the environment in its amniotic sac better. You will notice this if, for example, you talk to your child or play music. Although your voice and the voices from your surroundings sound somewhat distorted and muffled inside the womb, the baby still recognizes the individual voices and sounds. It is, of course, also very happy when you talk to it. Feel free to take time for the child every now and then, gently stroke your belly and listen to yourself. The child will love the affection just as much as you do.
Help with back pain
Are you plagued by back pain again and again? This is due to the ever-growing belly, which shifts the entire center of gravity during the Pregnancy. Even if you are not consciously aware of it, your posture often causes you to fall into a swayback position, which is of course not optimal for your back. The result: back pain.
In addition, the baby may be pressing on the sciatic nerve. This pain can radiate from the hip region into the legs. Unfortunately, there are not many solutions for back pain and sciatica, but exercises or aids can alleviate the discomfort a little:
- try to stand straight despite the heavy burden of the belly
- if possible, sit on a large exercise ball, which is better for your sitting posture than a normal chair
- enjoy warm baths for relaxation
- go for frequent walks and stretch your legs – this relieves the back
Iron deficiency in pregnancy
Many women often suffer from iron deficiency during pregnancy. This is, of course, because the mother's body takes the nutrients and vitamins it needs for the development and growth of the unborn child. To ensure your iron levels do not drop completely, you should consume enough meat, fish, and red juices. Your doctor will check your iron levels repeatedly during pregnancy. If they do not improve significantly despite your efforts, your doctor will certainly give you a supplement that will increase the levels.
