In the video for the 31st week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 31 are presented.

In the 31st week of your Pregnancy pregnancy, the child is 28 weeks old, has a total length of approx. 36cm and weighs around 1600g. Due to the further development of the brain convolutions, the number of brain cells is constantly growing. The child is now also benefiting from its sensory organs: it can touch, smell, taste, see and, of course, hear. At the same time, the fetus tries to perform rhythmic breathing exercises and also regulates its body temperature by itself.

The lanugo hair, with which your child was covered for the last few weeks, is gradually disappearing again. However, it may be that you will still find small accumulations of lanugo on the shoulders, back or in the skin folds after birth – but these will fall out on their own. Your child is now gaining a lot of weight and fat, and the skin is becoming plumper and rounder.

You are getting rounder and rounder

It is getting quite tight in your belly towards the end of the pregnancy. The body is slowly preparing for birth, which is why many babies are already turning into the birth position – i.e. with their head down. Many pregnant women notice the turning and also feel their child's kicks near the ribs. This can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable.

Is it the same for you? No sooner have you laid down to rest and stretched out your legs than the unborn child starts to romp around in the womb. This is, of course, because your child is already developing its own moods: as long as you are on your feet, the fetus lets itself be rocked to sleep by the swaying movements. However, when things quiet down, the child becomes active. Today we know that unborn children have a relatively short wake and sleep rhythm, which is lost after birth, however.

Perineal massage

Many midwives now recommend a perineal massage. This is useful for making the perineum – the flexible tissue between the vagina and the anus – more elastic. This massage can reduce the need for an episiotomy or even a perineal tear during birth. For the perineal massage, it is best to start 7 to 8 weeks before the birth. Use a natural oil for this, which you apply daily to the perineum in circular movements. You can do this both during and after a bath or shower. Wet one or more fingers with the oil and carefully insert them into the vagina. Now gently stretch the tissue towards the anus so that the elasticity for the birth is increased.

Pelvic exercises

The pelvis can also be trained for the upcoming delivery with special exercises. Choose this time of Pregnancy to prepare for the birth. To relax the pelvis, take a comfortable "knee-elbow position". To do this, place a fluffy blanket on the floor, sit on your knees and lean forward onto your elbows. Now open your knees a little, support yourself on your forearms and rock or swing your pelvis in small, circular motions. This will not only relieve your pelvis, but also your back.

Finally, stay on your knees, but put your arms up and make a big hump. Now slowly stretch your head upwards while the lumbar and thoracic vertebrae sink comfortably downwards. Stay in this "all-fours position" for a while, breathing in and out calmly until you gradually sit up again.
