In the video for the 32nd week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 32 are presented.
In the 32nd week of your pregnancy the fetus is 29 weeks old, has a total length of approx. 38cm and weighs approximately 1900g. The pupillary reflex has now developed, which adjusts according to the lighting conditions. The child's eyelashes have also become distinct and are very easy to see. If you have an appointment with your doctor now and an ultrasound is performed, you can see all sorts of things. On the monitor, you look at your unborn child and will also realize that it has become quite cramped for the baby. Often you can see the fetus already lying with its head down – even if this does not yet indicate the final fetal position. The baby can still move and perhaps change direction.
Maternity protection
In Austria, maternity leave begins in the 32nd week of pregnancy; in Germany, you have to work for another two weeks, as maternity leave only begins six weeks before the birth here. According to the Maternity Protection Act, expectant mothers are no longer allowed to work. Of course, exceptions are possible if the pregnant woman absolutely wishes to work. The protection period lasts up to eight weeks after birth. In the case of premature or multiple births, this period can be extended by four to twelve weeks.
Sex during pregnancy
By now, you should be able to present a quite round and stately belly. Although this big baby bump is a sign of love for partners in the Pregnancy, love sometimes falls by the wayside for many pregnant couples. However, from a medical point of view, there is no need to abstain from sex during pregnancy. Whatever is fun is still allowed. You should not be afraid of sexual intercourse, because this does not necessarily mean a danger to your baby. Your child is well protected by the amniotic sac and the amniotic fluid. In addition, the closed cervix protects the fetus from ascending infections.
Of course, the child is not completely unaffected by the actual act: the child's heartbeat increases during sexual intercourse and also reaches its peak with your orgasm. But don't worry: this is how your child learns to deal with stressful situations.
Speaking of orgasm: many pregnant women find it easier to reach orgasm during pregnancy because the female genitals are better supplied with blood. Around the due date, many midwives advise their charges to go ahead and have sexual intercourse, as the orgasm and the reaction to male ejaculate can lead to labor-like contractions of the uterus.
So, as long as you do not have a high-risk pregnancy, premature labor, or bleeding, you can be intimate with your partner until the end.
Choosing the place of birth
Have you already decided whether you would like to give birth in a hospital or at home? Feel free to talk to your doctor or midwife about all the advantages and disadvantages of the respective birth options. Perhaps you have already been to various hospitals and attended information events: this is an opportunity to inspect a delivery room in advance, talk to the doctors and midwives there, and of course exchange ideas with other pregnant women. Once you have found your preferred clinic, you can certainly consider yourself in good hands.
Clarify all eventualities and how you would like to arrange your birth when you register at the hospital. Whether in the bathtub, on the birthing chair, lying down, or standing – when the time comes, everything should be taken care of.
And even if you prefer to give birth at home in the familiar atmosphere, you should have everything prepared. Your midwife will give you valuable tips for this endeavor.
