In the video for the 33rd week of pregnancy on meinhaushalt.at important information and tips for pregnancy in week 33 are presented.
You are now in the 33rd week of your Pregnancy. The child is now 30 weeks old, has reached a total length of 38cm and weighs around 1900g. The fetus's body is no longer growing quickly, but its brain is working rapidly: new brain convolutions are forming quickly and the skull is also continuing to adapt.
There is almost nothing left of the lanugo hair that once covered your child, but the hair on its head is now growing stronger. The toenails and fingernails are also finished. As the baby's fat stores grow, it slowly takes on a rounded appearance, so that it already looks quite like a newborn.
But inside the mother's belly, it is becoming increasingly cramped for the unborn child. The fetus pulls its legs and arms in – even after birth, your child will sleep with its arms bent for some time, which is why this is referred to as the "fetal position".
Development of the baby in the 33rd week
So that the child can compensate for temperature fluctuations after birth and get used to its new environment, it is now gaining weight rapidly – you will also feel this in the coming weeks. On average, your child will gain around 200g per week. The exercises also continue: your child currently drinks up to three liters of amniotic fluid daily and excretes it again. This trains the kidneys, bladder, and stomach. A surface-active substance continues to develop in your child's lungs, which ensures that the alveoli become active immediately after birth and the newborn can breathe.
The tightness in the uterus also prepares the child for the upcoming birth. All the functions of your body and those of the child are slowly preparing for the big day. For example, many children now turn with their heads down into the optimal birth position and slide deeper into the maternal pelvis. You will notice this particularly because you can breathe better again.
You are surely already thinking about what your child might look like. Although the small glimpses from ultrasound examinations during pregnancy leave initial impressions, the live version is by far a different experience. Many women now indulge in their fantasies and are already holding their child in their arms in their thoughts. Will it look more like me or will it resemble my partner?
These days, a lot will also change for you emotionally: many pregnant women describe the final phase of Pregnancy as a rollercoaster of emotions. From sky-high jubilation to deep sadness, everything seems to be there that the hormones can provide. However, this emotional chaos is deeply anchored within us. The expectant mother is mentally preparing for the new situation. So don't worry, it's all natural and strengthens the bond with your child.
Sleep problems
Is nighttime sleep denied to you now? Already in the 33rd week of pregnancy, some sleeping positions are strenuous or uncomfortable in the long run. If you lie on your back for too long, you may become dizzy or feel unwell over time. The reason for this is obvious: the uterus, together with the weight of the child, the amniotic fluid, and the placenta, puts pressure on a vena cava. If less blood flows to the heart due to the pressure, your body receives insufficient oxygen and the baby cannot be adequately supplied either.
To ensure you get a little peaceful sleep in the last few weeks, a few tips are set out below:
- If possible, sleep on your left side. Also, bend your right leg and place a flat pillow between your thighs: this way you can lie and sleep stably and, above all, comfortably.
- If these new sleeping habits are uncomfortable for you at first, help yourself with a nice, relaxing lavender bath before going to bed. The relaxation can help you sleep better.
- If all these tips don't help you, feel free to take a "nap" or two during the day. Even half an hour can help you make up for the lack of sleep.
