At the beginning of pregnancy, women are often plagued by nausea, which is frequently triggered by unpleasant odors. The beloved morning coffee is suddenly rejected with a wrinkled nose, a favorite meal suddenly smells uncomfortable, and a favorite perfume triggers nausea. But where does the nausea come from in the first trimester of pregnancy and how on earth do you get rid of it?

Tips for pregnancy nausea

Fresh air

To make the nausea more bearable, getting some fresh air naturally helps here,

Essential fragrance oils

A fragrant and refreshing essential oil, such as one with lemon or lime notes, can also work wonders for nausea. You can get essential oils in small bottles at health food stores and keep them handy in your handbag.

Caution:When buying the oils, make sure they are truly natural and contain no chemicals or pollutants, as the vapors from artificial oils can be toxic and potentially harmful to you and your unborn child in the long run.

Apple cider vinegar

The all-rounder apple cider vinegar can do wonderful service here if you can tolerate it. You should mix a glass of water with 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar and 2 tsp of honey and drink it on an empty stomach. If you can't manage that, you can also drink it after breakfast.

Extra tip: Supposedly, this drink also strengthens the unborn child: it is said to result in a stronger physique, firmer fingernails, and thicker hair, so perhaps it is worth continuing to drink it even after the nausea has subsided. This mix provides minerals, supports the growth of the placenta, and accelerates the metabolism.

Snacks

Anyone who notices that queasy feeling in their stomach in the morning before even getting up can fortify themselves with a biscuit or a piece of rusk. In addition, a good sip of chamomile or peppermint tea calms and soothes the stomach. The taste of rosehip or mallow tea can also be a relief for the mother. Let your partner bring you a tea to bed in the morning or arm yourself with a thermos the night before. Place it by the bed so you can have some right away in the morning. If you feel queasy throughout the day, try small snacks. Always having trail mix, fruit, etc. on hand to keep the stomach a little busy helped me a lot.

Take it easy

Getting up quickly in the morning can also promote nausea. Therefore, stay in bed for a few more minutes in the morning and take it easy. This gives your blood sugar level time to stabilize so you don't feel dizzy. The plan: wake up first, then sit up, let your legs dangle from the bed slowly before standing up completely.

Avoid coffee or black tea

Avoiding coffee and black tea in the morning is also advisable. This can actually trigger morning sickness and irritate the stomach.

Light diet

Since many expectant mothers are plagued by nausea and vomiting all day, light food is the order of the day: fruit, vegetables, raw food, and dairy products are advisable and soothe the stomach.

Nausea – a good sign in pregnancy

Not every pregnant woman suffers from nausea, but most expectant mothers can sing a song about it. Where this “morning sickness” comes from, which strangely enough usually lasts all day, has not yet been scientifically clarified. Experts suspect that the pregnancy hormone HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is responsible for it. This hormone is crucial for the development of the placenta and will also trigger vomiting and nausea in the first weeks of pregnancy.

Furthermore, doctors explain that in pregnant women, food remains in the stomach longer than is usually the case. This condition also puts the digestive process to the test. Because of this fact, the organism must decide whether it wants to keep the food in the body or reject it.

The female body has to undergo a lot of changes, especially in the first weeks of pregnancy. The high HCG level, increased progesterone production, nausea, and vomiting take their toll on the mother. But don't worry: while you may have to hug the toilet bowl several times a day, the unborn child is developing quite comfortably and securely in the abdomen and does not feel much of the mother's struggles.

Some gynecologists even report that a pregnant woman's nausea can be viewed as positive in many respects. If the pregnant woman feels nauseous in the first weeks of pregnancy, doctors assume a stable pregnancy. If the mother also has to vomit, she does not need to worry about the child. It is well cared for and suffers no harm from it. Even if there is no weight gain in the first few weeks, but perhaps rather a weight loss, there is no cause for concern, because the appetite will return – most definitely.

However, if hardly anything stays in the stomach and the nausea and vomiting are steadily increasing, you should talk to your doctor about this condition and seek professional advice.

  1. The doctor's appointment last week confirmed it – I am pregnant. Out of excitement, I immediately went looking for little remedies to get my morning sickness under control.
Complete sensory overload – it's a bit like looking for shoes online ?
So I got advice at the pharmacy – I was recommended Sea Band Mama. I then Googled and found 2 interesting products – back to the pharmacy and the ultimate “test” begins. On one hand, there is a roll-on with essential oils against discomfort and small acupressure wristbands against the morning sickness well known to us pregnant women.
Bought both products and think they are great – the wristbands can be washed & used again.

  2. I am now in my second pregnancy and want to counteract the impending morning sickness this time right away ?
I inquired at the pharmacy about products that were made as much as possible on a herbal basis.
For 2 weeks I have been using such a roll-on from Sea-Band mama with essential oils and such small wristbands for acupressure. When the pharmacist recommended the wristbands to me, I was quite skeptical – but they really help. I am now getting up for the 8th day without nausea.
