Salmonella are tiny bacteria that can cause diseases in both humans and animals. While humans can become infected with this bacterium through contact with an animal, illness via food is also quite common. In most cases, it results in a spontaneously healing diarrheal disease, but it does not always have to end mildly. Therefore, proper hygiene is very important, especially when cooking and preparing food.

Correct hygiene in the kitchen

Through correct hygiene practices in the household, one can specifically protect oneself against salmonella. Poultry, eggs, and meat, homemade mayonnaise, and other foods are the ideal breeding ground for salmonella. To kill these bacteria, the food must be heated to internal temperatures of 70 to 80°C and kept at that temperature for at least 10 minutes.

For dishes such as tiramisu, which is made with raw eggs, storage should be kept constantly cool.

Personal hygiene is also very important: by washing hands frequently and conscientiously cleaning kitchen utensils and containers, salmonella can be quickly eliminated.
