Even though dandruff is a taboo subject, it won't disappear just by staying silent. According to a 2008 study, 67% of all respondents stated that they found dandruff disgusting and repulsive. Around 60% associated the word dandruff with poor hair care, and approximately 97% were certain that action must be taken against dandruff immediately. However, very few people likely know that dandruff is an important component of the organism.
Where does dandruff come from?
Since the skin—including on the head—renews itself every 28 days, old cells are transported away and keratinize on the skin's surface. Normally, these cells are microscopically small, so they are not visible to the naked eye. With dandruff, however, the keratinization is accelerated, many cells stick together, which results in large flakes. This premature keratinization can be caused by an unbalanced diet, dry heating air, stress, aggressive hair care products, or hormonal disorders. But excessive hair care can also lead to dandruff. Frequent hair washing irritates the skin, the natural flora on the head is disturbed, and the skin dries out.
Tricks against dandruff
However, you can say goodbye to dandruff with a few simple measures:
Healthy Diet
A balanced and healthy diet with plenty of vitamins and minerals is important for flawless skin: fish, whole grain products, chicken, and oatmeal are among the insider tips. A zinc supplement from the pharmacy rounds off your diet and ensures a life with less dandruff.
Eliminate emotional problems
Problems that burden the soul are not only unhealthy, they also harm the skin. Overcome your problems, and your skin will thank you for it.
Relaxation
Use yoga, meditation, or autogenic training to find yourself again. An evening in the bathtub with quiet music or a good book also often helps to find your inner balance.
Care
Handle your hair with care. Clean your combs and brushes, and wash hats, caps, and headbands regularly.
Clean with water
Before you shampoo your hair, you must clean it thoroughly with lukewarm water; this allows the dandruff to be removed better. Make sure the water temperature is not too high, as this strips the scalp of oils. Also, rinse your hair until every last bit of shampoo is gone, as these residues can also lead to dandruff. If your wet hair squeaks in your hands, there is truly no shampoo left.
Use shampoo without sulfates and silicones and that is pH-neutral
Check the ingredients when buying shampoo. It should not contain any sulfates or silicones. Furthermore, it should be pH-neutral. Such shampoos are available at the pharmacy.
No hot blow-drying
Blow-dry heat additionally irritates the skin. It is better to let your hair dry in the air or in the sun.
Apple cider vinegar treatment
- Apple cider vinegar
- Bowl
- Washcloth
- a little water
Pour apple cider vinegar into a small bowl and dip a washcloth moistened with water into it. Then brush your hair to the side so that you can see the scalp and dab it with the washcloth. Once the whole head is moistened, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then wash as usual.

Well, I've had problems with dandruff for about two weeks now, which of course came as a big shock since I've NEVER had dandruff before. My hairdresser explained that the heat might be to blame. She recommended the new anti-dandruff shampoo from Nivea and I bought it at Bipa last week! Now the dandruff is gone! So that's how you can do it!
