Especially when on a diet, one tends to develop cravings. To avoid putting back on the hard-earned pounds, here are a few tips to bridge these moments:
Tips against food cravings
Brush your teeth
When having a craving, it often helps to brush your teeth. Afterwards, the appetite is usually almost blown away. This is mostly because we subconsciously want to get rid of a bad taste in our mouth.
Chewing gum
If there is no toothbrush nearby, you can also simply use a peppermint chewing gum or a dental care chewing gum.
Fluids
Another cause for appetite is often thirst. First, drink some water and then listen to yourself to see if you really need to eat something.
Healthy snacks
An alternative to sweets is, of course, eating some fruit or vegetables. A banana is very suitable. Afterwards, the craving is often satisfied or at least not as strong anymore.
Distraction
Often it is just boredom that makes you suddenly start thinking about what you could eat. Distract yourself, go for a walk around the block, walk up/down the stairs in the office, or write an important email – try out what helps you best.
Dextrose
Dextrose can be useful against food cravings.
Mate tea
Drink a cup of mate tea in the evening, and you won't feel hungry overnight.
Dried sage leaves
Chew on dried sage leaves from time to time during the day.
Whole foods
Switch your diet to whole foods; here you achieve a lasting feeling of satiety, even though you don't eat as much.
Jacket potatoes
Eat 1-2 jacket potatoes in between meals; these create a long-lasting feeling of satiety.
Cress
Garnish your dishes with cress. Cress makes you full quickly and takes away the appetite for high-calorie foods. Eat a handful of cress with some dressing before every meal.
