Stairs in a house or apartment not only look fantastic, they give the room that certain something. But when they get loud and creak, it can become very annoying. Here is a tip on how to stop the creaking:
Help with creaky stairs
shoe cream
To get creaky stairs to get them noise-free, colorless shoe polish helps. Rub the wooden steps with the shoe polish, and the creaking will stop.
Wooden wedges
If the stairs are mortised into the side stringers, you can drive thin wooden wedges between the step and the groove on the underside of the stairs. If necessary, secure them well with some wood glue.
If a gap has formed between the wall and the side stringer, a hardwood wedge helps. Insert these as deeply as possible. Any resulting gap should be covered with a strip.
Long screws
For exposed stairs, they can be subsequently tightened with long screws.
