In winter, you and your children should wear headwear, as heat is also lost through the head. While hats are fashionable, the best options are beanies or scarves that can also be pulled over the head, as these cover not only the head but also the ears, which are particularly susceptible to frostbite in the cold. Earmuffs are not suitable, as they do not keep the head warm at all.

Why wear headwear in winter?

The justification for warm headwear should not be the medical myth that the human body loses 40 – 50% of body heat through the head. In reality, body heat is mainly dissipated through the head (approx. 10%) if the rest of the body is warmly wrapped up.

Nowadays, there are such great and fashionable beanies to buy, that it is no longer as bad as it might have been a few years ago. Many people wear beanies as a fashion statement even in the warmer seasons. Beanies have been very popular for some time now.Beanies.

For a good fit, measure your head so the beanie is not too tight. Beanies should be tried on, as not every one fits or is comfortable.

  1. What a misunderstanding! :(( cry :((
This study was an experiment by the US Army. It investigated how much energy the human body can conduct to the head to protect it from frostbite or to prevent the body temperature from rising to a critical level. Subjects were packed into heat-insulating suits and only their heads were uncovered. Thus, it was only possible for the bodies to keep their energy balance in equilibrium via the head. Almost half of the heat energy could be dissipated through the head. But that is not synonymous with heat loss. Certainly, in truly icy times and during longer stays, the entire body should be protected from frostbite. But the extremities (arms, legs) will always freeze first. Here, even the fingers and toes, then probably the ears. So a headband is sufficient, provided you still have hair on your head. It generally applies that hairless surfaces cool down faster than hairy ones!
    Bald head –> headwear necessary!

If you have no idea, just be quiet! Better than putting some false interpretations into the world and driving people crazy! :((
