To promote your baby's dental health from the very beginning, brushing their teeth daily is a must starting with the first milk tooth. Here are a few tips to make brushing successful:
The right toothbrush and toothpaste
You can find special children's toothbrushes with extra soft bristles at pharmacies or drugstores. For babies, it is initially enough to brush their teeth with just the toothbrush. As the children get older, you can add toothpaste. When choosing toothpaste, you are spoilt for choice, as there is already quite a lot on the market. However, our dentist recommended Elmex toothpaste to us. Add a rinsing cup so your child can spit out the toothpaste with water.
No constant sucking on sweet drinks
In any case, you should not offer your baby sugary drinks and avoid hours of sucking on a baby bottle. It is best to give your child only water to drink; they do not need sweet or especially sugared teas or juices, as their sense of taste is much more refined than ours. Our children only get water as a drink. Get your child used to proper drinking glasses as early as possible.
Extra tip: What you should definitely avoid: licking your baby's pacifier! Otherwise, you will pass your caries bacteria on to your child.
