Eventually, it happens to all children: the first teeth sprout. What sounds like it shouldn't be so bad is often a painful procedure for the little ones. The first teeth, which often break through at the bottom first, slowly move up through the gums. Some children go through this phase with almost no discomfort, while others find teething unpleasant and annoying.
The first teething
If your child is suddenly drooling a lot, you can solve this problem by tying a bib or neckerchief around your teething child's neck. This way, their clothes won't be constantly soaked with saliva, and a bib is easier to change than a sweater. Red cheeks can also be a sign of teething. The first teeth usually start their way up from the age of 6 to 8 months. In some precocious children, however, the first little teeth flash through as early as the 4th month of life.
Making teething easier for babies
Chilled teething rings
If you notice that your little one is suffering a lot, you don't have to stand by and watch helplessly – you can effectively make teething easier. For example, the cooling elements offered in drugstores, retail stores, or special baby shops are very suitable for this. However, pay attention to the instructions on the packaging: the teething rings must not be placed in the freezer, but should be kept in the refrigerator. A simple kitchen towel can serve as a base. The teething ring cools down quickly – after 5-10 minutes it can already be put to use. Disadvantage: it warms up quite quickly, so it makes sense to buy three or four teething rings so that another one can always be used.
wooden toys
But wooden toys are also gladly taken into the mouth, drooled on, and chewed by small children. The case is clear here: by chewing, the little ones relieve the pressure in their gums and are in a better mood again.
Remedies from the pharmacy
Furthermore, the local market also offers other remedies intended to make teething easier for the child. For example, "Dentinox", which is available at the pharmacy. A small amount from the tube is taken by mom or dad on their finger and rubbed gently onto the teething area – which can be recognized by a slight redness or the shimmering of the whitish tooth tip. Attention: if your child already has a few teeth, it can easily happen that they might bite down while sucking off the ointment. Not a pleasant affair, but at least you know that your child has a strong bite.
Then, of course, homeopathic remedies in the form of globules – also called pellets – are also available. It is best to ask at the pharmacy or your doctor which one you should use for your child. Unfortunately, not every globule works the same for every person, so you sometimes have to test it out.
As a rule, the tooth has broken through within a few days during the worst phase. It is known from many children that the first two teeth are the worst. However, if you have a more sensitive child, it is quite possible that the subsequent teeth can also cause problems. Reassuringly, the complete set of baby teeth contains only 20 teeth, so one can say that these complaints will eventually subside.
