Pacifiers are available from various manufacturers in different designs and variations. Primarily, they are intended to soothe the baby, especially since the child has a natural sucking reflex from birth.
Pacifiers – also called soothers or dummies – are available in two different materials: some are made of silicone, others of rubber (latex). Silicone pacifiers are very useful at first because they are very easy to clean. However, when your baby's first teeth start to grow, the pacifiers should definitely be replaced with the rubber version: unlike rubber, silicone can be easily bitten through. The risk of your child swallowing a piece of silicone would therefore be too great. The disadvantage of rubber pacifiers: they quickly become unsightly and need to be replaced more frequently. Furthermore, manufacturer guidelines state that for hygienic reasons, any pacifier should be replaced after 5-6 weeks.
Goldi rubber pacifiers
Our twins loved the Goldi rubber pacifier. It is guaranteed to be free of harmful substances and made of 100% rubber. It has a special natural shape and ensures relaxed and natural muscle and tongue movement in the baby's mouth.
What is better – the pacifier or the thumb?
A dentist would certainly say that neither option is beneficial for tooth development. However, the preference is clearly for the pacifier, as it can be taken away from the child at a certain age (usually from the age of 4, or better yet, earlier). It is difficult to forbid the thumb. Also, the thumb is not adapted to the human palate and mouth shape, whereas the industry strives to shape pacifiers to be as orthodontic as possible.
Therefore, pay attention to the notes on the pacifier packaging and the age recommendation in order to provide your child with the best quality.
