Just as summer is around the corner, some people notice that their summer clothes fit a little tighter than the previous year. They are desperate to lose a few pounds quickly and try various diets. While a fasting cure is not a diet per se, you can still lose quite a few pounds with it. The purpose of a fasting cure is to detoxify the body; especially in winter, many people tend to eat too much fatty food. This causes the body to become overacidified, which can manifest itself through impure skin, heartburn, digestive problems, and lethargy. This is where a fasting cure helps.

How do you do a fasting cure?

There are different types of fasting, but the most popular is fasting according to Buchinger. During the fasting period, only tea, juices, and vegetable broths are consumed. You begin with an introductory period of three days, during which you consciously eat only light food to prepare the body for the change. On the fourth day, the actual start of the fast, the bowel is cleansed; this is best done with an enema or Glauber's salt (caution: it tastes terrible!). From the fourth day on, no solid food is eaten. Now there are only liquids, herbal tea, fruit and vegetable juices, and soup broth. After a period of fourteen days, you should end the fast and return to light food. It is very important to start with light food, for example, a plate of oatmeal on the first day, and perhaps a potato and a little vegetable the next. You should definitely not overload your stomach right away.

Who is the fasting cure suitable for?

For almost everyone. It should not be done by pregnant women, children, breastfeeding women, people with eating disorders, those who are underweight, or people weakened by illness. It is best to talk to your doctor before starting to see if they have any concerns.

What do I need for fasting?

A hot water bottle for a liver compress; the heat supports the liver, which is working at full speed during the fast to transport away toxins. Herbal teas such as peppermint, lemon balm, or chamomile tea. The stomach tolerates these quite well and they have a calming effect. Soup broth and juices. Cotton clothing would also be ideal; it is warm and comfortable to wear on the skin. Especially in the first few days, you may feel cold quickly or your skin may become quite dry. Cotton clothing helps quite well here. A mild body oil is suitable for the skin. What you should also get before fasting is a book about fasting or at least sufficient information. Otherwise, it could all go wrong.

Fasting according to Buchinger is ideal for detoxifying the body and freeing it from overacidification; afterwards, you will feel like a new person. However, it is urgently necessary to inform yourself thoroughly beforehand!
