Comfortable upholstered furniture and carpets are a lovely upgrade for any home and make it wonderfully cozy. Unfortunately, they are often neglected during house cleaning because they are often not easy to clean. Many beautiful upholstered pieces must not be washed, and carpets are far too large to be washed. If pets also live in the household, carpets are often covered with lots of hair. Here we have collected a few tips on how you can still clean upholstered furniture and carpets thoroughly:
Cleaning upholstered furniture and carpets
Cleaning with a vacuum cleaner
Once a week, you should upholstered furniture at least vacuum with a vacuum cleaner. To do this, set the vacuum cleaner to the weakest setting, or the setting intended for this, and vacuum carefully. Not all upholstered furniture may be vacuumed; if it is too delicate, it is advisable to avoid doing so and use the beating-out method instead.
You should move very slowly over the carpets; this way they will really get deep-cleaned.
Rub delicate upholstered furniture with vinegar
To make delicate upholstered furniture more resilient, it should be rubbed down thoroughly with vinegar water from time to time. This creates a natural but effective protective layer.
Beating out upholstered furniture
To do this, simply place a damp sheet over the upholstery and then beat it vigorously with the carpet beater. The sheet catches the loosened dust.
Anyone who has a carpet beating rail can also do this very well with the carpet. Place the damp sheet on the top side of the carpet and beat the back side. This way, you won’t be standing right in the middle of the dust being stirred up. After beating it, you should brush out the front side of the carpet with a brush. It will look like new again.
Cleaning with a steam cleaner
Another very good option is steam cleaners. With them, you can also get upholstered furniture and carpets very clean. The only disadvantage here is that the carpet and upholstery will then be damp and need to dry for a few hours. So for this time you will need another place to sit. It therefore makes sense to do this in winter; in heated rooms, the upholstery dries very quickly.
Removing dog hair from the carpet
To get dog hair out of the Carpet more easily, use a rubber curry comb from an equestrian shop, and you have an inexpensive and effective option.
