It's wonderful when summer finally arrives, but sometimes the heat can really get to you. Especially in offices without air conditioning or even when you have to work outside in the sun. Here we have collected 10 tips to help you get through major heatwaves well:
1. Bathing or showering
The best thing against the heat is to bathe or shower in cool water. This cools down the entire body and works much better than a fan.
2. Set up a fan
If no air conditioning is available and a cool shower is not possible, a fan can help lower your body temperature. Practical links:Fans on Amazon, Air conditioners on Amazon

3. Drink plenty of fluids
In the heat, the body needs plenty of fluids, drink plenty of water, no alcohol, and little coffee.
4. Acclimatization to heat
Acclimatize your body to the heat and perform lighter activities outdoors in a controlled manner after cooling your body down with a cool shower. You can slowly increase the body's resistance to heat to be better prepared when the next heatwave comes.
5. No strenuous exercise in the sun
Refrain from exercising outdoors at high temperatures. Wait until it gets cooler and you will enjoy exercising more. Therefore, perform sports early in the morning or late in the evening and do not overdo it.
6. Headgear
An almost forgotten piece of clothing could become fashionable again – the hat. It protects against direct sunlight, and not just the head, but also the face, neck, and shoulders. Straw hats with a wide brim are ideal. Children should always wear a sun hat in the sun; there are already hats with UV protection available.
7. Light clothing
Loose, light clothing is a must during a heatwave. As a woman, swap jeans for a dress, and as a man, swap the fabric suit for a lighter linen suit with a thin white shirt.
8. Open shoes
You can also dissipate heat through your feet – so forget socks and lace-up shoes. Slip into moccasins and sandals to sweat less.
9. Sun protection
Be sure to pay attention to sun protection and choose a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. It is best to use a sunscreen that is waterproof. Always apply sunscreen to children, and always reapply after swimming. For children, UV-protective clothing is recommended, as I know from experience that children do not always stay under the umbrella. 10. Head to the basement
When it gets really hot, you should try to find cool rooms. In a house, the basement is recommended. Do not stay in the sun with children at midday; instead, look for shady places or cooler rooms.
Extra tip: Medication:Discuss the intake of medications such as diuretics with your doctor, as these can dehydrate the body. Psychotropic drugs can also be problematic as they affect sweat production – therefore, discuss this with the prescribing doctor as well.
