Excursions with a baby are a great change of pace for mothers and fathers. You get out into the fresh air and among people, so you might even meet new people. Since I come from the Marchfeld region and often have to think about where to take my two little ones, I would like to introduce 10 excursion destinations in the Marchfeld here.

Baby swimming in the Marchfeld

Baby swimming is now very popular for new mothers or fathers. Babies usually feel comfortable in the water, and it is also a nice change for the parents. Here in the Marchfeld, baby swimming is offered in the indoor pool in GĂ€nserndorf.

Marchfeld's castles

Excursion to Schlosshof in the Marchfeld

History and nature can also be wonderfully combined in the Marchfeld. Here in the east, there are wonderful castles that invite you to take long walks in their adjacent parks. A truly magnificent garden can be found in Schlosshof. It stretches over 7 terraces and leads to the March river, passing impressive fountains and flower beds. There are many places to linger, such as a petting zoo, a snack garden, and many picturesquely laid-out flower beds.

The Marchauen, which border Marchegg Castle, offer a beautiful hiking area. Here you will find easy, signposted hiking trails and pass by the largest stork colony on tree nests.

Child-friendly restaurants and cafés

Indoor playground for children at the Geier bakery in Strasshof

Eating is important for both children and adults. But with children, you need a little more than just good food. Children want to play or experience something right after eating, which is not possible in many restaurants or cafés.

Café Geier in Strasshof has set up a separate room for children, which can be monitored by parents via camera.

In Prottes, there is also a separate room in the sports hall where children can let off steam while the parents are still eating.

Also in Prottes, I can highly recommend the Buschenschank Helm. A very cozy wine tavern with really good delicacies and wine (and often desserts too!). The garden is great, where you can find some playground equipment.

The Grillranch in Deutsch-Wagram also has an outdoor playground, as well as mini-golf and animals to admire. Everything outside is at ground level, so you can get around very well with a stroller.

At the Heurigenlokal Storch in GĂ€nserndorf, children can romp around wonderfully in the guest garden. Playground equipment can be played with beautifully, and parents can still enjoy their meals in peace.

Animal parks in the GĂ€nserndorf district

Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park

Playground in the Ernstbrunn Animal Park

A beautiful wildlife park is located in Ernstbrunn. Here, children can even partially feed the animals themselves, and there is a large playground. The paths are not always easy to navigate with a stroller; it is often stony and hilly. With an all-terrain stroller, you are on the safe side, and also if you can push well on inclines.

Personal experiences: We got everywhere with our twin stroller, and the enclosure doors were no problem either, only sometimes there were quite steep inclines to overcome. But in my opinion, the fact that the path is a bit bumpier adds to the flair. It is a very natural park, and I find it all the nicer that you can even walk into some of the enclosures.

  • Duration: up to 2 hours
  • Catering: Sausage stand “HexenhĂŒtte” in the park
  • Extra tip: The Wolf Science Center – enclosure with wolves and special guided tours

Animal park in the Adventure Park GĂ€nserndorf

Adventure Park GĂ€nserndorf - Animal Park

In the Adventure Park GĂ€nserndorf there are some animals that you can look at, some can even be petted. Goats, sheep, and chickens are tame and trusting here. Furthermore, hares, rabbits, and degus can be viewed, but these may not be petted.

Personal experiences: We were at the adventure park with our children for the first time when they were 2 years old. The whole park is super accessible with a stroller. Here, the animal park and the petting zoo were just right for the children. Of course, we also spent a long time at the playground. The older the children got, the more interesting the other attractions became, such as children's go-karts, archery, or climbing. You can spend a wonderful day here. The park is beautifully laid out in the forest, so there is plenty of shade.

Farm in the Marchfeld

Organic farm Adamah in Glinzendorf in the Marchfeld

For children, it is a nice experience to visit a farm, and for parents, it is practical because you can buy fresh and healthy organic products right there.
The organic farm Adamah in Glinzendorf offers a great organic shop where you can find a wide range of products. Children will enjoy visiting the nearby small animal barn. Furthermore, farm festivals or plant sale days take place again and again; you can find dates for these on the Adamah website.

Play and contact groups

Play and contact groups are important for parents and babies. It is always nice to exchange ideas with other parents, and the babies can play with others of the same age. In GĂ€nserndorf, there is the Parent-Child CafĂ©. For only €3 (for members of EKIZ only €2.50), mothers can exchange ideas and listen to interesting lectures.

Baby workshops

For parents with babies, there are now also great workshops that are intended to promote the babies in their development. The adult education center (Volkshochschule) in GĂ€nserndorf also has a few program items for parents with children. How about, for example, a music workshop for mother or father and child?

Events with a baby

Family at the Advent market on the Wunderberg

In the Marchfeld, wine plays a very important role, and there are some events that you can also wonderfully visit with a baby.
A nice wine festival takes place in Auersthal on the Wunderberg. There is even a separate children's program here. The cellar lane festival in Velm-Götzendorf is also nice for walking. At numerous cellars, you can try delicious samples and delicacies. A highlight here in the Marchfeld is the Knight's Festival in Jedenspeigen. In GÀnserndorf, there are always Events taking place; with children, the long shopping night or the St. Martin's festival are a tip.

Exercise with a baby in the Marchfeld

Children's sports at Gymnastics GĂ€nserndorf

So that you as a mother (or perhaps the father?) can get back in shape quickly, but still have your child with you, mother-child gymnastics is very suitable. Both the Union in GĂ€nserndorf and Gymnastics offer mother/father-child gymnastics from 1 year of age. The bike paths here are also beautiful. I think they are great because they contain almost no inclines. From GĂ€nserndorf, the OMV adventure bike path leads through the vineyards to the magnificent Carpathian view and the oil and natural gas nature trail in Prottes.

Cycling in the Marchfeld

Cycling with children in GĂ€nserndorf

In the Marchfeld, many bike paths are (finally) being developed or improved. Near us, there are great paths around the fields: namely, if you just drive straight ahead on Feldgasse in GĂ€nserndorf town, at the end of the town there are some beautiful paths. Personally, I like to cycle to the Weikendorfer Remise. There is a great forest here where we go again and again with the children.

The paths towards Prottes are also very good; here you can then drive to the oil nature trail or further around in the forest – it is really very beautiful.

A nice path is also possible to GĂ€nserndorf South. Around the adventure park, you can cycle wonderfully in the forest and enjoy it.

Walking in the Marchfeld

I always liked going for walks with the children in the GĂ€nserndorf district. It did me good, and the children were in the fresh air. In the GĂ€nserndorf district, there are a few paths that are really great with children. Here are my favorites:

Landscape Park GĂ€nserndorf

Worth a visit is the Landscape Park in GĂ€nserndorf. Located on the edge of the city (behind the Institute for Computer Tomography), you can enjoy nature. Next to the goose pond, there is a goat enclosure, and several paths can be walked along.

Furthermore, several seating areas can be found along the paths, and you can enjoy the sun and the peace. The area covers a total area of 83,000 mÂČ and can also be easily navigated with a stroller.

Oil nature trail in Prottes in the GĂ€nserndorf district

In Prottes, the oil and natural gas nature trail is great with children. Here, old machines on the subject of oil and natural gas can be admired with display boards. Next to the road, there is a nice playground.

Personal experiences: We always liked coming here with our children and walking along. The children liked all these machines very much. The playground was also always visited and played on.

Playground GĂ€nserndorf - Neugasse-Rosengasse

In all of GĂ€nserndorf, there are great playgrounds. Our children tried out all the playgrounds and really liked visiting them.

Playgrounds in GĂ€nserndorf town:

  • Adventure playground Protteserstraße/Seegasse 18
  • Playground Rosengasse 9
  • Playground at the Funpark Hafergrubenweg (behind the elementary school)
  • Playground Eichamtstraße

Extra tip at the end

Fruit and vegetable market Marktfrisch in GĂ€nserndorf

In GĂ€nserndorf, there is a market every Friday on Bahnstraße opposite the Schmied Villa and next to the library from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Here you will find a wide range of fresh products and specialties, some of which are even available in controlled organic quality. A small walk with children, and you can show and explain fresh organic vegetables to the children and, of course, buy them right away and prepare nutritious meals with them.
