When children get bigger and more active, parents have to become more creative when choosing excursion destinations. Children want to be able to discover, play and run around. Strasshof Railway Museum
For children and, of course, for adults too, the Heizhausmuseum is an experience. On almost 85,000 m² of outdoor grounds, historic facilities, 8 operational steam locomotives and numerous rail vehicles over 100 years old can be viewed in their original setting and historic atmosphere. An absolute highlight is the steam operation days: on these days, visitors can ride on the locomotives and view the coal elevator or the water cranes. On operating days, a ride on the garden railway is possible, the model railway makes its rounds, and you can ride in the driver's cab of diesel locomotives.
Every year there is also a children's festival with numerous attractions for the children.
On Sundays and public holidays there are guided tours, which tell the history of the railway, present the vehicle collection and illustrate the current restoration work. Anyone who would like more information can also pick up a museum guide in the souvenir shop.

It is wonderful to do something in nature with children. That is why the Donau-Auen National Park near Orth an der Donau is a great choice. Here you can observe the habitats of the floodplain inhabitants in a small area. Rare plants and animals of the floodplain forest can be viewed here in peace. The sights include: underwater observation station, pond turtle enclosure, snake station, treetop path and stork's nest. There are also special events for children again and again, themed hikes, boat excursions, children's programs, lectures, workshops and even project weeks.

Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park
A beautiful, natural wildlife park is located in Ernstbrunn. Here children can admire the animals in the great outdoors; some enclosures are even freely accessible. Buy a bag of feed right at the entrance, because some animals may be fed. There are also special wolf tours in the wildlife park, where children learn many interesting things. To let off steam, the little ones can use the large playground, which even has a big knight's castle.

Niedersulz Museum Village
The largest open-air museum in Lower Austria is located in Niedersulz. On 22 hectares, you can visit almost 80 old buildings such as craftsmen's or farmhouses, a mill and even a cemetery. Beautiful front gardens and a vegetable garden, partly with old vegetable varieties, bloom to match. For children, the living farm is sure to be a highlight. There, children can observe pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits and poultry up close and even pet them.
For children, there are special guided tours every 3rd Sunday of the month; there is also a children's festival and 2 playgrounds for letting off steam.

Carnuntum Archaeological Cultural Park
At the Carnuntum Cultural Park, children experience something very special: here they learn about the life of the Romans in a playful way and gain an insight into archaeology. Unique worldwide so far, an entire city district has been reconstructed here on its original site.
Special children's guided tours take place for children during the summer holidays; there are also children's birthday parties and summer camps.

Time travel for children at Schloss Hof
Great guided tours for children take place at Schloss Hof. Daily castle tours through the state rooms are offered here. Every first Sunday of the month there are special family tours. There are special exhibitions again and again, so there is always something going on here.
During Advent, Schloss Hof also attracts visitors with a beautiful Advent market, featuring over 100 exhibitors. For children, there is a dedicated program with cookie baking, craft workshop, carousel, pony rides and a petting zoo.

Knight's Festival in Jedenspeigen
From a certain age, knights are very popular with children, and here the Marchfeld offers a wonderful spectacle: a knight's festival. In Jedenspeigen there is a large knight's festival with everything a child's heart desires. All-day childcare by trained specialists is offered: here children can let off steam in a straw bouncy castle, play children's knight games, try their hand at skill games or do handicrafts. Advent at Marchegg Castle
An Advent market takes place every year in the rooms of the castle granary and in the park of Marchegg Castle. Exhibitors offer handicrafts, baked goods, Christmas trees and much more. For the children, a children's play park is planned as a regular part of the program. In addition, a group of Krampus figures and St. Nicholas visit the Advent market.

Eckartsau Hunting Lodge
Eckartsau Hunting Lodge is the former imperial hunting lodge and is now part of the Donau-Auen National Park. It is very well preserved and truly worth seeing. The magnificent rooms can be explored on guided tours. The castle park is open all year round and can be admired without an admission fee. With children, the garden is a highlight; there are garden chairs, park benches and hammocks, as well as a nice playground. Here you can find wonderful spots for a lovely picnic.
Extra tip: At the beginning of spring, lots of snowdrops bloom here!
